Steel is a flexible and sturdy material that performs extremely well in all climates. The only time steel roofing should not be used is when your building is located in a close proximity to the salty water. If you live close to the ocean, you can use an aluminum or zinc roofing materials for your new metal roof. Other than that, steel roofing provides an excellent degree of protection from the elements. Modern steel roofs are coated with the zinc and aluminum coating, which provides corrosion and rust protection. In Fact, galvalume and galvanized steel roofs are designed to self heal, even when accidentally scratched.

Metal Roofing Colors

Metal Roofing ColorsAll modern residential metal roofs are coated with durable and energy efficient cool metal roofing colors designed to withstand extreme weather conditions and reflect solar radiant heat, which helps to cool off the building, save energy on cooling costs, and prolong the life of your HVAC equipment. Modern metal roofs are available in the great variety of standard colors that provide energy efficiency and enough variety to work perfectly for your home.

Metal Roofing Installation

If you are a do it yourself enthusiast ready to take on the challenge of installing metal roofing, then be sure to obtain system specific installation manual from your metal roofing manufacturer of choice. If you're like most people, you'll have to find a contractor who specializes in metal roofing, has references and is an actively registered and fully insured. If you choose to install metal shingles, then you can have the new metal roof installed over your existing roof provided that there is only one layer of asphalt shingles.

If you would like to have a standing-seam metal roof installed, then it is best to have a complete roof tear off done before for the installation of the standing-seam metal roof. The reason for that is that asphalt shingle will be visible and its lines will telegraph underneath the long standing-seam metal roofing panels. Because a metal roof is likely to be the last roof you have to install, be sure to use breathable and durable synthetic roofing underlayment as a water barrier underneath your metal roof. This will enhance the water tightness of your roof and allow your roof deck to breathe underneath the metal roof. This is important to avoid problems with mold and rotting of the deck.

Solar Roofing Ready

Standing seam metal roofs can be integrated with solar roofing panels that require no penetrations. This is a great way to get a long lasting and reliable roof and up your level of energy efficiency yet to another level. Refer to green metal roofing blog for more information on Solar Roofing panels for standing seam metal roofs.
Thus metal roofing is an energy efficient, and environmentally safe, and long lasting building material that can earn you green building credits, also knows as LEED, and qualify you for $1500 tax credits in 2010. Leave your comments and questions, and I will be sure to respond in a timely fashion.

Great lens! Excellent write up on the advantages of metal roofing. In Texas we are putting on metal roofs everywhere, but my friend in the North East tells me there are little to none. If solar energy technology becomes affordable, the best choice for panels is metal roofing.
