Top 10 Cool Survival Gadgets

Ranked #2,718 in Computers & Electronics, #48,078 overall

Be Prepared for Every Disaster

There will be a disaster this year. There is one every year. It could be a natural disaster, like a hurricane, tornado, or earthquake. It could be an economic disaster, like hyperinflation and the devaluation of currency. Maybe the world will end in 2012 - or maybe not.

It might not even be a large scale disaster. It might be something small and personal. An overturned car in the water, trapped and needing to get out. Getting lost on a hiking trip. Things can go wrong, but if you are prepared, your changes of survival are greater.

#1) Use this Filter Bottle to Make Safe Drinking Water

The Coolest Gadget of them all!

Lifesaver Bottle 4000 Ultra Filtration Water Bottle

Amazon Price: $149.99 (as of 05/31/2012)Buy Now

Sufficient water storage is one of the most difficult tasks to achieve in emergency preparedness. It takes a lot of space to store bottled water. If you live in a place that's not a desert, you can use this bottle to filter rain water, pond water, etc to make it safe to drink. Before seeing this lifesaver bottle, my plan was to just add chlorine to water to make it safe to drink.... which will work, but who wants to drink water that tastes like bleach? Not to mention that it can't be particularly good for you. So this looks like the solution. It was developed after Hurricane Katrina. Most natural disasters cause clean drinking water shortages. This is a must have for a survivalist.

#2) Hand Crank Radio - Weather, AM & FM Radio

1 Minute of Cranking is about 20 Minutes of Radio!

Ambient Weather WR-088 Emergency Solar Hand Crank AM/FM/NOAA Weather Radio, Flashlight, Cell Phone Charger (Red) with Cables

Amazon Price: (as of 05/31/2012)Buy Now

I own a radio like this one, and it's pretty good. Radios are ideal to have in emergency situations. Not only can you hear news and weather warnings, but listening to the radio is something to do... It helps pass the time and can help you feel less alone. I love the radio, and this one is great because it doesn't require any batteries, plus it can do lots of extra things, like charge the cell phone!

I have a plan...

kind of.... do you?

I have a couple of cases of water on hand. I have some dry foods and canned goods. I have flashlights. I have batteries for my radio. I own a hand crank radio. I own a weather radio. I try to keep gas in my car. I have duct tape. I am kind of ready. But I know there are still things I need to do. So I've been looking through survival gear lately, and here are my favorite finds. As money allows, I'm going to get myself prepared - and maybe buy a few of these things as gifts for loved ones. If you aren't sure what you need to do to be ready, check out this link.

Don't die because you couldn't get your seatbelt undone, or couldn't get the windows rolled down. This is important if you live near water, like streams or ponds. It only takes a few feet of water to trap you and drown you. We've all heard stories about people who have drowned in their car. Buy this survival gadget and attach it to your car door. Just came across your lens while researching. Heaps of cool tools here. One thing i'd add would be to get out there and play with all the stuff in your survival kit so you know how it all works. Go camping and give everything a good shakeout!

I've got some more thoughts on gear if anyone is interested on my survival site: http://www.allsurvivalthings.com/survival-backpack-ideas

Indeed, along with a p-38 (can opener) and by all means, nail clippers/with a file (not just good for cutting nails, but small gauge wires, or use the file on a tip of a spark plug if needed), <------my hubby actually showed me this when I thought he was crazy!
