Powerful Songs Of Worship

Ranked #1,033 in Music, #30,210 overall

Call to Worship

There is nothing that brings us closer to God than worshiping and praising his greatness. In the last couple of years, there has been an explosion of great, powerful worship songs written. I created this lens to highlight some of the newer worship songs out there, and to encourage you to connect with God through praise. So, whether you are singing in church or singing in your car, just worship God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.

Although this lens will focus on the singing and praising aspects of worship, I believe that real worship goes far beyond the singing. Real worship is showing God's love to hurting people as the apostle James alludes to in James 1:27.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27

New and Unique Worship Music

Unique and powerful worship music

The following are some powerful new and unique worship music from off the beaten path. These are either new original worship songs or new takes on older songs that I have run across. More than likely you will have never heard these songs, because like I said they are from off the beaten path. But, I am sure will find them as powerful and moving as I have. I will continue to update this section as I find interesting worship music.

What Makes A Worship Song Powerful?

The following is a list of components that make up a good worship song. Please vote for the components that you feel are most important, or feel free to add your own if it is not on the list.

What do you think makes up a good worship song?

Focuses On God

A worship song must allow us to 'worship' God through its lyrics. If the focus of the song is not on God, then who are we really worshiping.12 points

Theologically Correct

The lyrics of a worship song must line up with the Bible. It doesn't matter if the song has a good rhythm or melody if the lyrics are unbiblical.6 points

Easy To Learn

Really great worship songs have a natural flow that makes them easy to learn. This is especially true for songs that are song in a church setting.3 points

Contemporary Songs Or Hymns?

Everyone always seems to have a very strong opinion about what type of worship music is acceptable and proper, so I decided to start a discussion on the differences between today's contemporary worship music and the classical hymns style. As you will see from this page, I happen to like both styles of worship and feel that both styles allow us to truly focus on God and worship his greatness.

The main benefit of today's contemporary worship music is that it has a strong appeal to nonbelievers. Nonbelievers will be drawn to music that is similar to the contemporary secular music of their time. So this type of worship makes them feel more comfortable and opens up opportunities to reach them with the Gospel.

The main benefit of the hymns is their richness and theological heritage. Their complexity and depth can make them very powerful and moving when sung in a group of believers.

Which style do you prefer? And Why?

I cannot choose one over the other. Both are special to me.

Contemporary Worship Songs

alanbowman777 says:

I like the style that the Lord freely gives at the time . it might mean breaking the box of my own restrictive thinking to play in the direction of the Holy Spirits leading or a " new song unto the Lord " . If its fresh to me then its good but if it bores me I need to be more alert to what the Spirit of God might want
Oh yes PS ....LOL.... great lens .....one to re-visit

TheCureForYouthMinistry says:

I lean towards the contemporary, but I like a good hymn from time to time.

I prefer the contemporary worship music, but do like some of the classical hymns as well. The main thing is to have the focus on God!

Great hymns redone.

The following are my favorite hymns. A lot of the old hymns have been redone recently by today's worship leaders, adding another layer to the rich heritage of these classic worship songs. I have included videos of my top 5 'new' hymns (3 redone hymns, and 2 newer hymns).
