Cool Neon Signs

I freaking love neon signs. I don't know if I've been to Las Vegas too many times, if I've been to too many boring bars, or if I've seen one too many McDonalds signs and been brainwashed, but I love them. In fact I'm about to go finish watching "Lost in Translation" just because it's filmed in Shinjuku and Shibuya, two Toyko districts that are just insanely stacked with commercial neon signs. To each his own, but personally, I think it looks awesome!

How many times have you known a bar was cool or not just by its decor? Yeah, a lot. Because it's important. Now I'm not bashing boring little town bars (in fact sometimes I prefer them), but if you're out for a good time, looking to meet a younger fun crowd, there's nothing like walking into a local tavern and seeing nothing but bar stools, plain tables, and empty walls to dull the atmosphere. But when you walk into a lively Boston pub with neon Red Sox signs and vintage sports memorabilia all over the walls, you know it's a more lively place. Am I'm not even that into sports.

While I also love the super-classy nautical themed pubs with anchors, shipwheels, polished brass, old oak wood, whaling gear, oars, lanterns and you name it, it's also a great change of pace to walk into a dark Vegas nightclub with sexy, sleek, streamlined neon signs.

For most bars there's a happy medium. Most usually have some neon beer signs or neon mirrors, while occasionally you'll walk into a bar and need freaking sunglasses (tip to bar owners: you don't want it movie theatre dark in your bar, but at the same time, turn down the lights just a little, we're not in a Wal-Mart).
