A Cool Cory Catfish is a Healthy Cory Catfish
Most Cory Catfish are very small and will be very happy in smaller aquariums. However the tanks needs to have an established biological filter before any Cory Catfish should be placed in the tank. Cory Catfish will not tolerate the high ammonia and nitrite levels that occur in new tanks.Cory Catfish are social and prefer to live in groups. Keeping 4 or more in a tank is ideal to keep them happy. The tank substrate should be fine gravel or sand to avoid damaging their sensitive barbels. Ideal water temperature is between 72 and 79 degrees with pH level between 6.8 and 7.5
Cory Catfish Socializing
Cory catfish are very social and should be kept in groups of 3 or more. My question is does this same rule work if the group is all different types of cory catfish. I recently bought a Juli Cory, Panda Cory and Peppered Cory. I am now observing them to see how they will respond to each other living together where they are each the only one of their type of cory catfish. Will they swim together and be social or will they stay apart? I will soon find out and post it here.

The Cory Catfish Aquarium
A very important part of keeping Cory Catfish healthy and breeding them is establishing an ideal aquarium for them. The aquarium needs to be a good size and have the all the right pieces of equipment for it to maintain the best conditions for keeping and breeding Cory Catfish. I have broken this section up into the 4 basic parts that are needed to establish an optimal Cory Catfish aquarium.
- Fish Tank and Stand
- The most important part is the fish tank itself. The size of the tank will have a very big impact on the amount of Cory Catfish that can be kept and how many fry can be raised in the tank before it becomes crowded. The stand needs to be sturdy and able to support the weight of the tank when it is full.
- Hood and Lighting
- The hood provides a cover for the tank and will also hold the lights for the tank. Some hoods have filters built into them.
- Aquarium Heater
- Cory Catfish are warm water dwelling fish that prefer temperatures between 72 and 79 degrees. A heater is necessary to maintain the right temperature for the Cory Catfish to live in. There are many different types and styles of heaters each with their own special benefits.
- Aquarium Filter
- In an enclosed aquarium environment, waste products can build up quickly. Good filtration is a must for any tank that will be the home to Cory Catfish. A good filter will remove the toxins from the water and help keep the water conditions optimal for keeping and breeding Cory Catfish.

- Ha! I found the little bugger. He was hiding somewhere. Just suddenly showed up. I have no idea where. I moved every plant and the driftwood and I was positive he was gone. Oh well. Add elusive to the list of Cory traits! LOL

- I went to Petco today and they had a good variety of cory catfish to choose from so I decided to experiment and get 1 Panda, 1 Peppered and 1 Juli. My experiment is to see how the 3 different types will behave together and if they will be social just like as if it was 3 of the same type of cory catfish.
I have never known cory catfish to jump but if you don't see it anywhere in the tank then it is safe to assume that it jumped. The only other thing that could have happened is if you have large scavenger fish like a pleco or rainbow shark then the cory could have died and got eaten. Don't be discouraged. Sometimes fish don't adjust to the new tank. Most stores have a return policy. But without a body you probably wouldn't be able to use any return policy.

- Well I lost a Juli Cory Cat last night. I counted all four around 5 p.m. and then by 7 p.m. only three! I looked everywhere. I moved the driftwood and plants around and he's not there. He must have jumped out? I didn't know Cory Cats would jump out like that. I've heard that swordfish will jump, but not the catfish. I have to assume that he jumped out and the dog ate him. So today, I am going to the fish store and getting a replacement. Two fish in as many days gone. This is getting depressing.
