Meet the artist, Cheryl Paton

Welcome, I hope you enjoy your visit. This is a picture of me standing beside the mural I painted on our dining room wall. I had graduated. I had finally painted on a wall that was outside of the basement!

I've always enjoyed art, the making of it mostly. It was one of my favorite activities as a child. I had an older cousin that worked in a craft place and she brought home many colorful feathers and beads, and this and that. It was like a treasure chest and I couldn't wait to see what was in the box.

When my dad was painting the walls, and 'changing' their color, I couldn't wait to get a hold of a paint brush and help him paint. It looked like such fun!

In elementary school, my class was asked what we wanted to be when we grew up. My first thought was an artist.

When I grew up, I worked at various jobs. And then our daughter came into our lives. She and I were out shopping one day and I saw a yard sale. In the yard was a two sided easel. My heart sang. We could create at the same time! My daughter could create on one side and I could create on the other!

The beginning of my artist adult years

Before the easel purchase when my little one was sleeping and I wasn't so tired, I started watching Bob Ross. My heart began to sing, "I can do that!"

After watching a few Bob Ross shows, I went out and purchased some paints. I wanted something that would be safe around a young one, so I bought some non-toxic acrylic paints, some brushes, and some canvas. I was set, or so I thought.

My paintings looked like mud, but I hadn't set out to paint mud. Well lo and behold, I found out that acrylic paints did not behave like the oil paints that Bob Ross was using. He could blend ten and twenty minutes later. Mine was already drying or dried. Ugh!

But I didn't give up. I read books on painting with acrylics. And lo and behold, with practicing my newly learned skills, my paintings started looking better.

The painting of ice cream cows

ZazzleMy husband wanted a colorful painting for his office at work. We decided on colorful cows. I received permission from a local dairy farm to take pictures of their cows; they and the cows were most cooperative.

"So if the cows were going to be colorful, how were they going to be colorful," was the question I asked myself. The answer was ice cream.

So I decided to paint the cows in an ice cream shoppe. Later, I made a copy of the painting and Ice Cream Cows also became an Ice Cream Party Invitation. Each cow is the same color of their favorite ice cream.

Love Is For All

Love Is For All was inspired by a practice that I used to do and from time to time now, where I talked to God, reached my hands up into the air, and said, "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you." And I felt shivers come down through my body. And I knew that this love was for everybody, whatever color we are.

The bible says that God is the spirit that connects us, surrounds us, is in all, and through all.

Expanded on Affirmations

In my adult life, I ended up having to replace a lot of my childhood misconceptions by using and applying affirmations. Then I decided pictures would be nice.

So I made pictures to go with my affirmations. They were definitely more fun to look at made reading the affirmations more enjoyable. Since I liked the picture affirmations and found them helpful, I thought others might too. Affirmation Art was born:

Painted Cats

I've always loved cats. I got my first cat when I was two and she lived for over twenty years. Out of my 50+ years, over 46 of them I've had at least one cat, sometimes two. I find them to be great inspirations as well as a fun time out for some feather chase or bat the ball.

Flowers

I did some gardening work for a friend of mine and decided to paint some instead of just plant them. Painting flowers is fun; they come in so many shapes and colors, and I can even create some of my own!

Outline Art

to enjoy as is or for coloring in.

I like to encourage the creativity in kids. So in addition to tie dyed shirts, they can also now have color in or paint in shirts, aprons, and shoes. They can be "colored in" with fabric paint markers.
