It's Not A John Deere, But I Love It Just The Same
A question was recently posed to me: "What is your most prized possession?" Now, on the surface, I bet you think that's an easy one to answer. So did I. Until I had to answer it. Really. What do I own that I prize more than other things? A helpful tip was given along with the question that I should think of what I would save in a fire. Okay, so that has to leave out my Amish made oak china cabinet and my pretty purple microfiber sofa.
Hhhhmmm, what does it mean to prize something?
Then it occurred to me that just because I can't cradle something in my arms and run with it, I can still value it. I can still be proud of it. Since I was mowing the yard while having this conversation with myself, it finally hit me. I am very very proud of my riding mower. Yep, that's a picture of it. Isn't she a beaut?

Why Do I Need A Riding Mower?
Can't You Just Use A Push Mower?
Well, I did use a push mower. For nearly ten years of living in this house I used a push mower. And more and more I was very sure I was going to die each time I did. It's not that the yard is that big...it's the slope in the back that would kill me. Just enough of an incline to remind me that I am not immortal. And that lawn service companies exist for a reason. I kept telling myself that I would trade up and get a riding mower. One of these days. But, every time I thought that one of those days was finally here, something else came along and bumped it off the calendar, so that day wasn't here yet and I was out there pushing the mower again. Yes, that IS a cupholder.

There Are Some Classic Shots Here
And, don't laugh at these 'cause you think they look a little 'worn'. I love these shots because someone cared enough to take a photo of their faithful mower and give it a little immortality on the internet. Every mower has a story too, right?

Grass Looks So Pretty Sometimes...
I love the feeling of satisfaction that comes when the mowing is finished and I can sit down and look out over my well shorn lawn. No matter whatever else I have going on, I always try to take the time - even if only just a few minutes - to sit and look at what I've finished and enjoy the view. By the number of photos on Flickr, I'm thinking I'm not the only one.

- That's a mean machine - but sexy? Can think of sexier things. Super lens, but wouldn't be a lot of use on my balcony (the mower that is, not the lens).

- We love our riding mower but it's much more than just an easier way to cut the grass. It's a tiny workhorse with a dumping trailer that hauls around rocks, stone, mulch, soil, tools, concrete blocks and even our cement mixer. We worked our Yard Machine hard, then refurbished it (complete with a new paint job and fancy pinstripes) and gave it to our daughter when we upgraded to a John Deere.

- haha, mowers are not sexy! Good for you for getting one, but please don't spread the word that mowers are sexy. I would not be a happy girl if someone bought me a mower for my birthday. :) hehe, congrats on using your Squidoo earnings for something you love, though. :) How about a vacation next?
