It's Not A John Deere, But I Love It Just The Same

A question was recently posed to me: "What is your most prized possession?" Now, on the surface, I bet you think that's an easy one to answer. So did I. Until I had to answer it. Really. What do I own that I prize more than other things? A helpful tip was given along with the question that I should think of what I would save in a fire. Okay, so that has to leave out my Amish made oak china cabinet and my pretty purple microfiber sofa.

Hhhhmmm, what does it mean to prize something?

Then it occurred to me that just because I can't cradle something in my arms and run with it, I can still value it. I can still be proud of it. Since I was mowing the yard while having this conversation with myself, it finally hit me. I am very very proud of my riding mower. Yep, that's a picture of it. Isn't she a beaut?

Why Do I Need A Riding Mower?

Can't You Just Use A Push Mower?

Well, I did use a push mower. For nearly ten years of living in this house I used a push mower. And more and more I was very sure I was going to die each time I did. It's not that the yard is that big...it's the slope in the back that would kill me. Just enough of an incline to remind me that I am not immortal. And that lawn service companies exist for a reason. I kept telling myself that I would trade up and get a riding mower. One of these days. But, every time I thought that one of those days was finally here, something else came along and bumped it off the calendar, so that day wasn't here yet and I was out there pushing the mower again.

Yes, that IS a cupholder.

What Does This Have To Do With Squidoo??

So, time passes, and I keep pushing that mower around my yard. Then, I found Squidoo. And, looky at that, I'm getting money off of my lenses. It's going into a PayPal account. That's when the idea came to me - that money was going to stay int hat account until I had enough to buy a riding mower. It was drips at first, but when you wait and you try and you grow - those drips add up. And, before I knew it, those drips had filled my bucket enough that I headed off to buy my mower. Paid cash for it. And that felt good. So, there you have , that is why it is a prized possession to me. It is a tangible hunk of proof of what I have been able to accomplish with my very eclectic collection of lenses on Squidoo.

Riding Mowers

There Are Some Classic Shots Here

And, don't laugh at these 'cause you think they look a little 'worn'. I love these shots because someone cared enough to take a photo of their faithful mower and give it a little immortality on the internet. Every mower has a story too, right?

I Had To Have A Bagger For My Cool Mower Too

The point of mowing at all is to make the yard look good. And, I don't think you can do that with clippings all blown willy nilly about the yard. So, I waited for some more royalties to build up and got the fancy ole bagger attachment for my rider. It was definitely money well spent!!

Grass Looks So Pretty Sometimes...

I love the feeling of satisfaction that comes when the mowing is finished and I can sit down and look out over my well shorn lawn. No matter whatever else I have going on, I always try to take the time - even if only just a few minutes - to sit and look at what I've finished and enjoy the view. By the number of photos on Flickr, I'm thinking I'm not the only one.

With Apologies To Kenny Chesney

For My Blatant Terrorism Of His Song Title

I really enjoy Kenny Chesney's music and one of his songs inevitably comes to my mind when I think of my mower. No, of course it isn't really relevant, but that is how my mind wanders.

You'll find "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" and 9 other great Chesney songs on this album at a price that can't be beat.
