About Cool Lipo

Cool Lipo (laser-assisted lipolysis) is a new, minimally invasive technology that liquefies fat for easy removal. It is a laser-based procedure that breaks up and removes fat cells in areas such as under the chin, neck, legs, chest, and stomach.

Skin Tightening

The Cool Touch Laser-liposuction is a procedure approved last year by the FDA. It is an improvement on traditional liposuction in that there is little or no blood loss. There is minimal down time from work because the incisions are only 5mm's. Which also avoids problems with scarring. The laser is set on skin-tightening mode and after lysing the fat cells and suctioning the area, the laser is re-inserted and the skin is tightened. The tightening of the skin can also be done on patients who have lost weight, but are left with sagging skin folds.

Cool Laser Liposuction ( CoolLipo) Vs Smart Lipo

Cool Laser liposuction performs laser lipolysis, meaing it melts fats, and at the same time it does skin tightening all in the same procedure. Cool Liposuction is newer and considered to be the next generation of laser liposuction. With Smart Lipo, which also does laser lipolysis, but the procedure cannot accomplish the same skin tightening as Cool Laser Liposuction.

Here are the main features and benefits of Cool Laser Liposuction compared to Smart Lipo systems

1. Cool Liposuction has a max energy output of 15 watts compared to Smart Lipos 10 watts. This difference renders Cool Lipo more efficient at melting fat.
2. Smart Lipo laser has a wavelength of 1064, which is best at targeting blood and colored structures. Cool Laser Liposuction has a wavelength of 1320, which targets the collagen and water within the collagen, which causes the skin tightening. Many Doctors will actually take out the fat, and then go back in along the dermis to tighten up the skin even more.

Between the two, Cool Laser Liposuction is more appropriate and effective for liposuction and skin tightening, then Smart Lipo.

Cool Lipo Vs Regular Liposuction

Traditional liposuction can mean lengthy recovery times, scars, and less than ideal results. A longer time that a patient has to wear compression garments and increase scars because liposuction surgerys are very invasive to the body. A typical liposuction surgery leaves a fairly noticable and/or large scar in the area. After a typical surgery a patient has to have someone drive him/her home and will be down for a few days and very sore. Always associated with intense bruising and swelling starting the first day and lasting for a few weeks. Many people who have liposuction done do not see the results till the intense swelling has gone down.

With Cool Laser Liposuction, there may be no bruising at all, or there may be some bruising (generally only with patients who tend to bruise easily). With Cool Lipo the very small entry points in the skin heal uneventfully and the scars that might be left usually are unapparent or unnoticable. Patients do wear compression garments but for shorter amounts of time than with conventional liposuction, usually only a couple of days. For many areas done with Cool Laser Liposuction, there is no down time, and you are able to function and work. Some patients drive themselves home, but some prefer to have someone drive them just because they are used to regular liposuction and they are worried that the process will be more intense than descriped to them, which is not the case. Several of our patients will walk out and go back to work after the process. Many patients who have multiple areas or larger areas done, are more comfortable in taking a day or two of rest, and then resuming activity / work. In general, there is very little down time with Cool Lipo - at most a couple of days, and often, none at all.

The downside to Cool Laser Liposuction, compared to regular liposuction, is that it is a bit more time consuming. It might take 4 or 5 hours to suction out a quantity that could be removed in an hour with regular liposuction. For this reason alone, very few plastic surgeons in the US will do it. They make a lot more money doing, facelifts, Tummy tucks, which take in the upwards 4 to 5 hours than they can for doing a 4 to 5 hour Cool Laser Liposuction procedure.

Cool Lipo Vs Lipodissolve

Another technique being marketed with liposuction assistance is Lipodissolve which is the procedure of injecting a toxic liquid that dissolves fat, often without the need for anesthesia. It may appear that this option is the best and least invasive, at least on the surface, but consider for a moment, what actually happens as the fat is being destroyed in the body without removal. The body has to repair it self AND remove these damaged fat cells and dispose of them, not to mention the toxic liquid it has to combat and remove out of the body. In large areas, this process of fat removal and most importantly the healing process can take months and exposes the individual to the risk of retained fragments of fat cells and have severe lumps or skin bumps, and even infection of the decayed fat particles. Lipodissolve may be used for treating small areas of fat, but for most people the fatty deposits are extensive and the risks are simply too great to take with injecting toxins into the body.
