Ah, a sweet topic indeed. Cool Whip vs. Reddi-Wip! For years the battle has waged over these mighty contenders for the #1 spot amongst dessert toppings -- and other uses not to be mentioned in this PG-rated lens! One typically comes in a tub whilst the other in a handy spray can. Reddi-wip, introduced in 1948, is the brand of aerosol propelled, sweetened whipped cream produced by ConAgra Foods. Cool Whip was introduced in 1967 by the Birds Eye division of General Foods and is a product today of Altria Group. I personally prefer Cool Whip ... So, which side are YOU on?

Cool Whip is a brand of non-dairy whipped cream substitute named a whipped topping by its manufacturer. It is used in North America as a dessert topping and in some no-bake pie recipes. It is generally described as non-dairy as it contains no cream or milk and no lactose; however, it does contain the milk derivative casein.

A bit of background on Reddi-Wip 

Reddi-wip is the brand of nitrogen-or-isobutane-propelled, sweetened whipped cream produced by ConAgra Foods. It is sold in the following varieties: Original, Extra-Creamy, Light, Fat-Free, Non-Dairy, and Chocolate.

The Original and Extra-Creamy come in 7oz. and 14oz. cans. All other varieties, except Chocolate, come in 7oz. cans only; with Chocolate available in 6.5oz. cans only. (The Reddi-Wip site even promotes consuming the Chocolate variety, especially, on its own, presumably - as is popular with many people - dispensing it straight from the can into one's mouth.)

Despite being available in an aerosol can, it should be treated as regular cream: sealed and refrigerated when not being used.

According to the Reddi-Wip website, it is packaged in Holland, Michigan.
