Before considering any other plugin, I would URGE you to simplify your life immensely and install PLUGIN CENTRAL". I've uploaded an image of what plugin central looks like "in action". After you have this baby activated, you can install your other plugins through your Wordpress administrative panel.

After you have this plugin activated, you can import plugins thorugh your Wordpress admin panel and not have to bother using FTP unless you just want to. (I've only run into one other plugin that WOULDN'T work with this service!)

The first one I want to mention is pictured "in action" here... WP Greet Box. It's very easy to customize. The only change I wanted to make was to edit the html of the pop up boxes to add a link for EMAIL subscriptions. Put in a sign up box for Aweber.com or Feedburner.

You can make these adjustments through your settings and alter the settings for each and every specific type of pop up... one for people come via Twitter, one for people who visit as a result of a Google Search, etc. You can even determine how often they'll see the pop up message. If they come to your site via Twitter or Facebook for example, it even prompts them to retweet the link or post it on Facebook for their network to see! Pretty cool!

Now this is awesome. I'd say you should consider this IF you are in the business of designing Wordpress based sites for money. That's because it's going to cost you money to buy. But from what my designer buddies tell me, this software is worth every penny (if people are paying you to design sites of if you're independently wealthy and easily bored).

It's basically theme generating software so your sites don't have to have the developers backlinks! It's WP REMIX and it lets you create your own custom theme by "remixing" a theme using "point and click" technology from the best elements of many Wordpress themes! If you become a guru using this tool, people will actually PAY you to make their own custom Wordpress Theme.

I'm not even going to bother with a link to "Hello Dolly" that insufferable plugin that Wordpress automatically installs to insert a lyric from the song "Hello Dolly" whenever you log into your dashboard. I get rid of that ASAP on every blog I have.It's an eyesore on the dashboard and in the plugin menu! (Can you tell I don't like it?)

AKISMET is a plugin that helps stop spam comments on a Wordpress blog. It didn't make my list because all new wordpress installs automatically include it. This baby has kept me from having to manually delete 100,000+ spam comments. Like a faithful - whatever - it's always underated because it works so wonderfully in the background, you only notice it when the service is down and spammers are going wild on your blog.

I tried the WORDPRESS DOWNLOAD MONITOR Plugin and thought it was cool, but it was unpredictable in its working. I just deactivated it. I might conceivably try it again, but I don't see how it earned a 5 star rating. I had nothing but problems with it. I'll let the aggravation decrease a while and possibly try it later.
