Copper Ionizer: 7 Reasons it Rocks
1. Swimmers prefer the feel and taste of water treated by Copper Ionizer over salt water pools by an overwhelming margin.
2. Copper Ionizer systems work within a calcium hardness range of 200-2,000ppm. Because it converts calcium to bicarbonate, the Copper Ionizer will eliminate and prevent calcium scaling on pool walls and rock features. Salt water pools do not control calcium scaling and will only work within a calcium range of 200-400 ppm.
3. Since salt water pool systems produce chlorine, the sanitizing effectiveness of the system is impacted by changes in temperature, bather load, sunlight and rainfall. Changes in any of these factors may require additional "shocking" of the water to prevent an algae outbreak. The effectiveness of the Copper Ionizer is not significantly affected by these factors. A Copper Ionization System owner does not have to be concerned about doing anything different to treat their pool if they have 20 kids in the pool all day. The pool water will still provide bacterial and algae protection for a full week or more.
4. Vinyl liners, automated pool covers and solar covers may become damaged from the use of chlorine or salt water pool systems. Since Copper Ionizer systems do not require the use of harmful oxidizing chemicals, these expensive pool components can be expected to last their normal life expectancy.
5. Salt water pool systems will use an average of 500 watts of AC power for a 20,000 gallon pool. Copper Ionizer systems will use an average of only 40 watts of DC power to treat the same amount of water.
6. Salt water pool systems and Copper ionizer systems both use a chamber in their process. The difference is that a salt water pool system's cell may need to be replaced in 3-5 years at a cost of over $400. The copper bars in the Copper Ionization chamber cost less than $100 to replace and they should last 4-7 years. The Ionizer chamber is warranted for 5 years and should last indefinitely.
7. The backwash discharge from an Copper Ionizer treated pool is safe for use on lawns and in gardens since it does not contain any salt or sodium. Backwash from pools treated with salt water systems can kill plant life, sterilize soil preventing plant growth and is prohibited in many municipalities in the United States and Australia (where salt water systems were invented).

Pool Ionizer - Do they Work?
A pool ionizer works fairly simple but implementing silver and copper ions into the water. These ions work to kill bacteria and algae that are present. The problem comes when this is not exactly fully effective. When an algae problem gets out of hand during the time a pool is dormant and covered people are finding it very hard to get copper levels high enough to kill the algae that is present. If your pool gets beyond the green algae and your issues are black algae you will find it almost impossible to get the copper levels high enough to tackle this problem.
To tackle winterization problems people are finding that they need to add a non copper based algaecide to there pools and run there pool ionizer on max for a few days bumping ppb up to higher then normal levels. Then upon opening the pool after the winterization period is over they have to run the pool ionizer again on max for a few days. Then placing the system on a time to run during long periods of the day to maintain there pools properly. There is a lot of work that goes into efficiently running a pool ionizer and sometimes that hard work does not pay off when the algae problem is just too large for a pool ionizer to tackle. Some pool ionizer users have even gone so far as to resulting to using pool chemical use to clean a mess after winterization. Not only this some pool users are even opting to place one chlorine tablet into there filter to keep there pool's clarity more clear then what the pool ionizer is offering in clarity.
When a pool owners resorts back to the use of chemicals to clean there pool they are effectively proving that the pool ionizer is not as effective as the pool chemicals. It seems this pool ionizer method of a chemical free pool is not exactly holding up to the standards of being chemical free if it needs assistance now and then by chemicals to fix a larger algae problem or to keep the clarity levels to the pool owner's satisfaction.
To be a true chemical free pool a pool needs to be chemical free various methods on the market can offer a chemical free pool. Ecosmartpool.com offers a unique system where water that passes through the water pressure lines is non-chemically shocked providing a clean pool. This method is also virtually trouble free and very cost effective. As there are no chemicals to buy and no problems with keeping your water clean and algae free with the use of another function on the control panel that ionize the water and removes any bacteria from the water. These two methods together provide pool owners with a clear pool and a chemical free alternative to cleaning their pools.
