C.O.P.S.

C.O.P.S. (Central Organization of Police Specialists) is a late 80s' animated series created by DiC Entertainment that aired between 1988-1989. This show is based on a toyline of action figures, known as C.O.P.S. n' Crooks, that were created by Hasbro the same year the show first aired. The show aired again in 1993 on Saturday mornings in syndication as "CyberCOPS" to avoid confusion with the live action version of COPS, the reality TV show. The series is all about a team of futuristic police officers lead by Special Agent Baldwin P. Vess (C.O.P.S. Codename: Bulletproof) who strives to bring a powerful criminal leader Brandon "Big Boss" Babel and his army of criminal thugs to justice and restore law and order in the streets of Empire City in the year 2020. The show contains only 66 episodes and has gained many fans who grew up enjoying the series along with its unforgettable characters such as Bulletproof (My all time favorite character), Buttons McBoomBoom, Big Boss, Nightshade, Mace, Berserko, Highway, Sundown, LongArm, Barricade, Dr. BadVibes, and many others.

The C.O.P.S. team

In my honest opinion, the cartoon has the strongest appeal. The toys and the comic books both should have been made into exact replicas of all the characters as seen in the show and made into the exact format of the cartoon series itself; all made to promote the cartoon and include in the series Mainframe, Mirage, Nightshade, Ms. Demeanor, Brian O'Malley, Whitney Morgan, Commissioner Highwaters, and Mayor Davis. It has all of the delightful combinations of light-heartedness, interesting stories, humor, action, excitement, awesome, unique characters, each with personalities that makes all of them special in their own right, a vessel known as The Ultimate Crime Machine, a Big Boss look-a-like, a brilliant Berserko, a big blimp, a retired cop, a green car, a romantic, loving relationship between a COP and a Crook, a "pardner" in crime, an African-American woman who's also the President of the United States, trained bugs, The Bad News rock band, a clownmobile, a lucky penny, thieving toy robots, instant justice machines, bad cookies, a crimeboss who despises illegal drugs (let alone a dirty suit), a little girl who dresses up like a superhero, unforgettable battle cries of "It's Crime Fighting Time!" and "Crime's-A-Wasting!", a COP, who acts like a sportscaster, a conscience band, baby-size crooks, a chip off of a COP's own block, a boxing kangaroo, speed suits, ghost suits, and so much more! It has a lot more OOMPH in it than the toys and the comic book version of the series all put together.

This is the cartoon that had a strong influence in my life ever since I went to high school when it first aired on Fox and on WGN channel 9 in the Chicago station. I love that cartoon very much and I don't want it to be forgotten at all, ever. There are many who may have forgotten about the series, but I am determined to keep the memories and the influence of the series alive and bring them right back atcha' and help people everywhere rekindle the memories of C.O.P.S. and hopefully elevate the series to an absolute cult classic filled with die-hard fans, both old and young.

There's also another reason why I'm bringing this up. I'm having a petition drive to release all episodes of C.O.P.S. on DVD. Thus far, Shout Factory has released the first 22 episodes of the series on DVD, but seeing only 22 episodes while there's in fact 65 episodes and
one lost episode The Case of The Boy Nobody Wanted out there is not enough. It is better to see all the episodes than a few handfuls, don't you think?

Here's the page from Shout Factory that has the DVD up for sale.

C.O.P.S. Page From Shout Factory

Unfortunately Shout! Factory have decided to not release the rest because of poor sales, which I find to be inexcusable. Shout must release all C.O.P.S.
episodes on DVD and I need all of your help to accomplish this goal.

About a year ago, I made up a petition to release all episodes on DVD and have tried to spread the word all over the internet about it in every which way I can only to get major setbacks, drawbacks, and a tiny
trickle of signatures added to it (Please don't tell me online petitions won't work because Shout does pay attention to petitions, whether it's online or hand written, to see how many people would like to relive all the times of watching classic shows such as C.O.P.S. for instance and respond to them). I totally hate it when it happens and right now I'm getting real tired of all sorts of obstacles standing in
my way, the setbacks, the drawbacks, the stumbling blocks, dead ends, forks in the road, and seemingly little or no responses whatsoever. Every pleading I made fall seems to fall on blind eyes, let alone deaf
ears. And I'm getting really desperate here finding a lot of people who are willing to sign the petition. That's why I'm posting this to beg and plead with you all to sign the petition to release all 66 episodes,
including the lost episode, on DVD. It doesn't matter whether you not heard of the show before, forgotten the show, or fondly remember the show. All I need is help in adding 1,000 signatures (or better) to my petition to release all episodes on one huge 12 CD boxset and on 3 separate 22 episode boxsets. That should be enough to convince shout factory that we want all C.O.P.S. be released on DVD.

Thus far, I have 368
signatures on my petition. The deadline for petition signatures is DROPPED! Feel free to sign the petition anytime. All I want from you is full participation and support in reaching my goal of 1,000 signatures added to this petition,

Sign it now!

That's all I ask of you, please support the cause and sign the petition to release all episodes of C.O.P,S. on DVD!

C.O.P.S.

The finest law enforcement agency there is in the country.

Baldwin P. Vess Codename: Bulletproof - The Greatest of all C.O.P.S. The proud founder and commander in chief of the C.O.P.S. unit sent to Empire City to put Big Boss and his criminal gangsters behind bars. Unfortunately, his first attempt to arrest one Big boss' criminal henchmen was a failure. He became seriously injured while trying to nab Berserko and Turbo Tu-Tone and found himself in the hospital where he was given a new lease on life with a stainless-steel torso that not only made him resist bullets, but it also enhances his strength, supply him with a computer jack to help manipulate machines, and supply with special disks that short circuit machines and blasts open holes in the wall. Knowing he cannot handle all this alone, Bulletproof sends out 2 of the city's best law enforcers, P.J. O'Malley (Codename: LongArm) and Donny Brooks (Codename: Hardtop), to seek out the country's most finest Law enforcers around and bring them to Empire City to form a team of the most professional, most highly specialized crimefighters the world has ever seen -- C.O.P.S.

Rex Pointer Codename: Bowser and Blitz - K-9 Officer and robot dog think intelligently like a human being. An inseparable duo who fights crime as one, collaring and restraining crooks who tremble and submit when Bowser sics Blitz on them.

Patrick J. O'Malley Codename: LongArm - Patrol Officer with highly specialized powercuffs he uses to catch crooks like a fish and reel them in without having to chase them down. A Staunch follower of the Letter of The Law, yet he's one big hearted policeman who cares a lot about everyone in the city and tries successfully to convince even juvenile delinquents to see the error of their criminal ways, give them up, and become law-abiding citizens.

Tina Cassidy Codename: Mainframe - She's no mere police dispatcher and rookie officer. She's gifted with the most advance knowledge in computer technology and high tech wizardry. She's no stranger to any machine, whether robot or computer system and shows no qualms in using her computerized talents to solve even the most chaotic of capers.

Walker Calhoun Codename: Sundown - Texas Ranger and Sheriff who came to help the C.O.P.S. team clean up this urban one-horse town with his trusty lasso that never misses its mark and twin six shooters he can draw faster than any other cowboy known.

David Harlson Codename: Highway - The fastest of all C.O.P.S. who drives The Bluestreak motorcycle to chase down even the most speediest crooks ever to race down the street. But he doesn't seem to know how to bake a decent plate of cookies to share with his buddies let alone invent something that really works. He's most famous for making the worst cookies Mace, at one time, uses to thwart another criminal scheme put on by Big Boss.

Donny Brooks Codename: Hardtop - Rookie Officer, LongArm's partner, and Professional driver of one of Empire City's most formidable of assault vehicles, The Ironsides. He's also known to have a crush on ECTV News Reporter Whitney Morgan, too. One time in The Case of The Stuck-Up Blimp, he was afraid of heights, but eventually got over it and helped his teammates storm a large state of the art blimp and arrest an army of crooks sent by Big Boss to rob the blimp of all its valuables.

Suzie Young Codename: Mirage - Undercover Officer and mistress of disguise who could either be a maid mopping floors in a large mansion, a hospital nurse, or anyone else she can disguise herself as to infiltrate the criminal underworld and see what Big Boss' crooks are up to.

Hugh S. Forward Codename: Bullseye - Hardly seen with both feet on the ground, he's the best helicopter pilot in the C.O.P.S. team. Flies The Air Raid chopper to swoop down on his criminal target like a hawk swooping down on a rabbit.

Stan Hyde Codename: Barricade - Crowd Control Officer and excellent peacemaker who would rather settle matters peacefully than fight. Often seen with Mace, an occasional hot-headed COP.

Colt Howards Codename: Mace - SWAT Team officer and master of weapons with a heart of gold and a soft spot for a criminal femme fatale. Usually jovial and light-hearted, Mace sometimes becomes a hothead and loses his cool when things really gets heat up. That's when the likes of Barricade and Bulletproof would come along to calm him down to the point of reasoning with him and make him understand the situation so he can do the right thing without losing his temper.

Crooks

Public Enemies #1

Brandon Babel alias: Big Boss - King of Crime, Ruler of the criminal underworld, hater of dirty clothes and illegal drugs. He rules the criminal world with a iron fist - literally and is never without his pet weasel friend Scratch. He bears a iron metallic fist on his left hand he slams on his desk to make his point across on a lot of occasions. Incredibly fat, yet strong, this big fellow shows no tolerance toward the Law, rival crime bosses, illegal drugs, and dirty clothes.

Barney L. Fatheringhouse alias: Berserko - He's dumb. He's stupid. He knows nothing. Yet, he's the proud nephew of Big Boss who knows no shame as he goes about causing trouble in Empire City just for kicks.

Edmund Scarry alias: Rock Krusher - Strong and muscular. He's in and out of jail a lot. All brawn, no brains, but a bit smarter than Berserko. So proud to be a prisoner that he doesn't mind going around in his prison uniform carrying a jackhammer he uses often to shake up the C.O.P.S.

Constantine Saunders alias: Buttons Mc BoomBoom - Big Boss' personal bodyguard who blasts an array of bullets at any target at will with his cybernetic chest containing twin guns he reveals right after he unbuttons his suit. He hates bugs and keeps a penny in his pocket for good luck.

Stephanie Demeanor alias: Ms. Demeanor - The strongest crook whose muscular body is just enough for this female crook to use as a very deadly weapon.

Dr. BadVibes - An evil scientist known for his literal brainstorms, his ability to help Big Boss plan their next crooked caper, and a robot companion named Buzzbomb who helps BadVibes carry out his evil schemes.

Buzzbomb - A robot, with a buzzsaw on his right arm, who simply helps BadVibes carry out their criminal schemes. He's an abnormal robot who has feelings, emotions, and greatly loves children.

Ted Stavely alias: Turbo Tu-Tone - He never goes slow while driving down the highway. He loyally serves the crooks as a getaway driver who always drives recklessly down the road to escape the C.O.P.S.

Rafaella Diamond alias: Nightshade - Jewel thief, cat burglar, and sometimes anti-heroine. The most beautiful and significant of the criminal bunch....and the apple of Mace's eye.

Dirk McHugh alias: Squeeky Kleen - Personal servant and yes man, Squeeky works to please Big Boss, even though he screws up sometimes.

C.O.P.S. Supporters

Loyal allies on the side of The Law

Brian O'Malley - Proud son of LongArm and his wife Linda O'Malley. The "chip off of dad's ol' block" who's famous in helping the C.O.P.S. team thwart Big Boss' criminal plans on many occasions.

Mayor Davis - The boss of C.O.P.S. He's the Mayor of Empire City who means well and greatly supports the C.O.P.S. But, he, along with other city officials, is most often used as pawn to help Big Boss carry out his criminal schemes to take over Empire City and overthrow the C.O.P.S.

Whitney Morgan - TV News Reporter for the ECTV news who's never far from getting the latest scoop on what's happening in Empire City.

Commissioner Highwaters - She serves as the Police Commissioner of Empire City who at one time tries to keep the C.O.P.S. team together when they were on the verge of falling apart in protest against Sundown's poor leadership in The Case of the Ready Room Mutiny.

Various Allies

Friends and One time heroes of Empire City

Agent Belson - Secret Service Agent, who along with his men, helps the C.O.P.S. team rescue the President of The United States from Big Boss in The Case of The Big Boss' Master Plan.

Inspector Yukon - Canadian Mountie who at one time in The Case of The Iceberg Pirates helped the C.O.P.S. team deliver a large iceberg to a drought-stricken Empire City to replenish its reservoir.

Captain Crimefighter - a little girl in a superhero costume who one time in The Case of The Half-Pint Hero helped the C.O.P.S. team catch Ms. Demeanor, Turbo Tu-Tone, and Rock Krusher and uncover the stolen money robbed from a bank.

Nancy and Kathleen - Kathleen is Nightshade's younger sister and Nancy is Nightshade's older sister. Unlike Nightshade, these 2 are great supporters of C.O.P.S. who one time in The Case of The Red-Hot Hoodlum helped them stop Rock Krusher and his flaming suit on board a large blimp by luring him on board to steal an exhibit of rare jewels and then tricking him into turning on his suit only to melt and get stuck through the floor of the blimp while it was floating in the air. Nightshade loves her sister deeply and wants her to never follow in her crooked footsteps when she grows up.

Mickey O'Malley - LongArm's proud father and retired policeman who shows to everyone that you're never too old to fight crime.

Judge Davis - Mayor Davis' twin bother who serve the city as Empire City Judge. He one time ordered Ms. Demeanor to wear a conscience band around her head to tell whether her actions are either right or wrong in The Case of The Crook With A Conscience.

Samantha (Sam) - An underprivileged girl who helped LongArm and Hardtop foil the plans of Dr. BadVibes who set up a mechanical circus as a cover-up to rob the gold depository of all of its gold bars in The Case of The Crime Circus.

Mr. Keen - The designer of the mall's theft-proof security system in The Case of The Criminal Mall, who thought he won't need even the C.O.P.S. team to protect and secure Empire City, but after the Crooks' failed attempt to steal the robotic brain to the security system, he was forced to rethink his views.

Doctor Rock - A well known ECTV Rock DJ who was forced into helping The Bad News, a criminal rock band lead by Dr. BadVibes, Berserko, and Rock Krusher, carry out their plans to hypnotize the citizens with their specialized rock guitars and steal all their belongings in The Case of The Rock and Roll Robbers.

Various Criminals

One-Time troublemakers of Empire City

Addictem - A drug lord who sold Crystal Twyst in the streets of Empire City in The Case of The Lowest Crime. His product almost killed Berserko when he accidentally fell into a crate filled with the illegal product.

Jamie Wheeler - A con artist who tried to con her way to becoming Berserko's wife at one time in The Case of The Bogus Bride.

Johnny Yuma - Sundown's "pardner" who was once a notorious train robber in The Case of The Pardner in Crime.

Brannigan - a city official who's also one of Big Boss' trusted spies. He one time tried to start a C.O.P.S. mutiny to protest against Sundown's poor leadership in The Case of The Ready Room Mutiny.

Big Momma - Big Boss' mother who's not really a crook, but a sweet doting mother who at one time tried to bring her son into custody in The Case of The Lost Boss.

Vargas and the Instant Justice Machines - Head Councilor and his band of police robots who tried to replace the C.O.P.S. as head law enforcers of Empire City in The Case of The Bogus Justice Machines.

The Bugman - A crooked Flea Circus Ringmaster and his swarm of trained bugs who tried to join Big Boss' criminal army in The Case of The Baffling Bugman but was double-crossed by the crime boss himself who sent out Nightshade and Buttons Mc BoomBomm to kidnapped his bugs and use them for his own criminal purposes.

Small Guy - The littlest crook who hatched a big plan to take over Lopsided Orphanage and use it as his personal hideout in The Case of The Baby Bad Guy.
