The Process
Methods
Copying DVDs is a fairly simple process when you are set up for it. In a nut shell you need a PC, which if you're reading this then you likely have, the right piece of software to copy the dvd and some blank media storage dvds for which to transfer the ripped dvd onto.
The complicated bit of the process is taken care for by the software and your end results can vary widely depending on which piece of copy dvd software you opt for. The other thing which will effect your end result is the quality of blank dvd you choose to write to.
The basic process is to insert the dvd into your drive, open your software and choose to rip the dvd. The software will then decode the security in place on the dvd so the files can be unscrambled. Then the files get copied to your hard drive. When it comes to burning the dvd files you should have options. You may wish to burn directly back onto a blank dvd or vcd (video cd), or by changing the format you can make them viewable on handheld devices such as the iPod. A good piece of software can take care of all of this in one cycle. If you choose free software then you may run into errors being created. This is because they dont decode the dvd propery or haven't got the ability to change the format as required.
One of the best pieces of software, if not "the best" is DVD NEXT COPY. Although this is a paid piece of software it is well worth the investment, especially if you are backing up or copying a lot of dvd's.
