Since the advent of the internet the choice has exploded and you can now buy everything from travel kettles to luxury designer kettles and everything in between.

Choice is great but when its so huge a choice it can be difficult to make sure you're getting the best deal so on this page I hope to bring together some useful info on cordless kettles to help you choose the right one.

Brands of Cordless Kettle

The top brands of cordless kettle and their strengths

Bosch Jug KettleRussell Hobbs
Starting with one of the oldest brands in this list I introduce the great Russel Hobbs. This was the first company to develop an automatic electric kettle that shut off when the water had boiled. This wonder of technology was first built in 1955 to much jubilation. Ever since Russell Hobbs have reputation for innovation in kettle technology.

Kenwood
They originally made their names in audio-visual equipment for people's living rooms but have since branched into a number of other electrical goods including kettles. They have a great reputation and seem to have carried over a lot of their expertise from their roots as quality AV equipment specialists..

Philips
A Dutch company who actually have a large medical technology division and kettles are more of a side project in comparison. Their relibility can be sketchy at times though they are good innovators. If you go for a Philips then you can't go far wrong with their greener range of energy efficient kettles. But be sure to check out their rating if you look on Amazon.

Breville
Famous for their toastie (toasted sandwich) maker they are based in Australia and often produce quite quirky looking kettles with a unique style..

Prestige
These people concentrate on making high end designer kettles developed to make a statement in the kitchen. Very nice kettles but they lack in practicality in some of their models.

Bosch
One of the biggest manufacturers of engineering equipment in the world. Some of their kettles have been a bit sketchy in the reliability department of late but they are generally pretty solid. Be sure to check ou the comments and reviews of any before you buy to see if anyone's had problems in the past. The Bosch stainless steel kettles (pictured) are by far the most popular at the moment.

Cordless Kettles FAQ

The most common questions people ask

Kettle De-ScalerDo modern cordless kettles really boil faster or is it only because they're new?
No you're not imagining it - they really do boil faster. This is because as the technology has improved the manufacturers have developed more efficient heating elements that ensure more energy reaches the water faster. There's also the general upward trend of kettle power output but it is still possible to buy economy kettles that use less power if you want to be greener.

How do you de-scale a kettle?
This could easily be a page in its own right but a quick summary of the top ways are:
  • Metal De-Scaler - these resemble a scourer and collect limescale before it settles in the kettle.
  • Vinegar - its true you cna use vinegar to de-scale a kettle but make sure you do a couple of rinsing boils after the vinegar has done its job.
  • Industrial De-Scaler - there are industrial cleaning products out there specially designed for the job but when vinegar can do it why bother?
  • Water Filter - some people opt to filter their water before using it in the kettle. This is a good option if you want to get rid of other nasty tastes in your local water supply.
