Corgi Legend: The Faerie Steed

Magical Corgis

Welsh corgis are indeed a magical breed, and legend has it that they once served as the trusted steeds to the fairies in the woodlands of Wales.  If you look closely at a corgi's coat, you can still see the outline of the fairy saddle on its back and shoulders!

I can't believe that I was born and lived for most of my life and was unaware of this legend! I notice this is about the Pembroke Corgi rather than the Cardiganshire one, so perhaps it only refers to the Pembrokes? The Cardiganshire Corgi is a little larger and does not have its tail docked, so it is left long and wags continuously when the little fellow is happy, which tends to be most of the time. It's been quite a few years since I had a Corgi myself, but next time I see one I'm going to hve a good look for its 'saddle'. Thanks for this interesting post, I love legends and folk stories!
