Corn Mazes

Corn Mazes

Corn mazes are giant puzzles that you walk through. Farms take cornfields and cut paths into them. But to add more of a challenge there are loops and dead ends to get you lost. And since the corn is usually taller than you are, it is easy to get lost. Many times corn mazes are even cut to make the field look like some type of picture or design. Magical Paths: Labyrinths & Mazes in the 21st Century

Wind your way through a maze or a labyrinth: two symbolic journeys, both rooted in myth and mystery. But while labyrinths are flat, circulate pathways designed for the acquisition of inner peace, mazes feature patterns of barriers that challenge, confuse, and deceive the walker.
After looking at the legends and evolution of these two kinds of complex, twisting paths, Jeff Saward considers the innovative ways today's land artists and garden designers have recreated labyrinths and the new "craze" for mazes-from maize mazes and mirror mazes to wood and water mazes and simple garden turf mazes. The diverse and stunning examples come from all around the world, and this breathtakingly photographed overview captures their visual excitement and unique inspiration.

No, I have not been to a corn maze but it sounds exciting. There is a historic farm in my town which usually has a corn maze. I may go this year after getting inspired by this lens. Blessed by a Squid Angel.

We love getting lost in a corn maze every October! :-) It's okay, as we always find our way out, eventually! Last year, we braved it by flashlight, with a bunch of teenagers! Blessed by a Squid Angel!

When our guys were little we sooo looked forward to visiting the pumpkin patch because they always had the 'funnest' corn maze. We'd get to gigglin' as we tried to find our way from one end to the other. Never knew they had such elaborate ones...great to see the pics of the corn mazes on here.

We did this once with my oldest when his was about 7yo. He loved it, I hated it - it brought out my claustrophobic side.
  • LisaAuch Sep 26, 2010 @ 8:34 am | delete
