Why I Like Corporate Scavenger Hunts

My vision is a world where everyone loves their work.  One of the ways I seek to accomplish this is by creating high-impact corporate team building events.  In my opinion, the single best team building activity for a corporate group is a scavenger hunt because it helps meet many important team building objectives including building relationships between participants and challenging team skills such as communication, prioritization, creativity, teamwork, strategizing and problem-solving.

What is a scavenger hunt?

A description of the activity

A scavenger hunt is an active and enjoyable team activity that is based on a list of questions to be answered and objects to be collected. Some answers and objects can be collected at specific locations, others can be collected at numerous locations. The questions are in random order, challenging teams to determine their optimal route and to prioritize the tasks that they will try to accomplish in the allotted time. Each team selects a unique route which means that teams don't follow each other around, however they frequently see each other along the way, adding to the competitive nature of the event.

I was recently involved with a corporate strategy hunt through CityHunt.

The scavenger hunt itself was challenging yet very fun. CityHunt had us going all over New York City trying to solve puzzles that incorporated many aspects of our own company. We had to solve clues to open lock boxes or gain phone numbers, which often led to other clues. There were many different ways of completing the challenges that they provided, often we had to take photographs or occasionally ask people on the street related questions.

The experience took away from the stresses of a normal work day, and it really enriched our work environment. It allowed many of us to get to know certain coworkers in an environment outside of the typical office setting.

Overall I would describe the CityHunt experience as very fun and invigorating. I felt it helped me build better relationships with many coworkers.
