A Little About Cosplay & Me

Cosplay ("costume play") is the art of dressing like Japanese animation, manga (comic book), and video game characters.  I've been cosplaying since 2002, after being introduced to the hobby through friends.  I've gone on to do cosplay promotional work for the likes of ADV Films/Anime Network at The Cable Show (formerly The National Show in 2004), Cartoon Network, and Capcom/Living Room Games at A-Kon.  I've also appeared in Cosplex (Japanese cosplay magazine), Anicoz Magazine (Feb 2008), and Stone Bridge Press' Cosplay: Catgirls and other Critters.  The following is my guide to what you should know about Cosplay!

"They"- A Music Video Remake

The idea of the project was to take a music video that could have been done so much better, and re-create it in the way you would have designed it. The style I chose to redesign this song in was of a Gothic Masquerade Ball. The ballroom scene was filmed at the Loew's Theater in Jersey City. For more information on the theater, please visit http://www.loewsjersey.org/ . For the singers, I chose to have them represent the elements of nature. Each element plays a role in representing the storyline and its characters: Water/Ice: Represents the icy feeling of the countess. Air: The changing winds of the two leads meeting and the flirtation between them. Earth: A strong and firm bond but mystery between them. Fire: The passion growing between them/the rage felt by the bodyguard at the young woman's disappearance. The entire video was shot in a weekend in collaboration with Theory Film INC. There are two other versions of his project as well, though they will not be shown publicly for some time. Also, the video is still in its fine tuning stages, but will be flawless by the time that it reaches the panel of professors at my school. I have to give a huge thanks to my actors and crew. Without them, none of what you have seen would have been possible. They are all amazing to suffer through freezing cold, dehydration, stupid hours in the morning, rehearsals of long and tedious endeavors, and caravaning 10+ cars through New Jersey. Also, a huge thanks to my family for all their love and support over the past five months of work. And lastly, thanks to the Jersey City fire department and medical center for taking such great care of one of my actors who was hurt in the process. Thank you to all of them.

Cosplay

Read this before commenting, Please! The difference between "bad good" cosplay and really good cosplay Edit: I'ved noticed how many of you believe I placed some of the "good" cosplayers because they were "half naked", first of all, I'm a girl and I'm straight. Why would I be looking at barely dressed girls? Second of all I put them as good because the looked just like the character they are cosplaying. Also, I'm not being racist, Ived seen a bunch of really good American cosplayers and a lot of really ugly looking japanese cosplayers as well. This were the only pictures I had saved on my computer when I made this video. Last but not least, If you read this it says the difference between "BAD GOOD" cosplay. I'm not saying it's bad. I'm saying it's good but they have some flaws in them. I'm not trying to insult people, I'm being sincere. When I make a cosplay I would hate it if people told me it's good just because "I put so much trouble into it". It's called costructive criticism, it's supposed to make you look back at your work and see whats wrong and then try to improve it. The Yeah Right phrase in the middle of the video, sorry if it offends anyone that was not my intention. One more thing, The Aeris in 00:20 and the BloodRayne in 00:25 were supposed o be in the good cosplay, sorry for that, my bad.

No Need for Cosplay (Part 1)

(2003) "No need for Cosplay" is the new short film documentary by Director-Producer Rhianne Paz Bergado. "Cosplay" is short for "Costume Play." Fans of Anime, Manga, Video Games, and other forms of fantasy fiction dress up as their favorite characters. These costumes are usually home made and include ornate designs, wigs, and props. You can observe plenty of Cosplay at local Comic Book, Sci-Fi, and Anime conventions. Who's in this thing, anyways? No Need for Cosplay features today's hottest up and coming cosplayers. Cosplay goddesses like Adella & G-Chan, the fierceness of Hi-Chan & Ziggy, Lord Masamune and filmmaker Peggy Wang. Not to mention the hundreds of Ani-Magic convention attendees! This piece also has an original music score by Sketchbook Cafe.

Hey, I love the idea of your site. And there's a lot of stuff about Japan and cosplay. I thought you might be interested in an online competition by Tokyo publisher DHP. Here's the link:
