Want to Buy a Little Piece of Costa Rica Paradise?
Then the best place to start is to get your "you-know-what" down there to see and experience the place for yourself. You can do this on your own, or you can enlist the help of an expert....like me! I am that "Costa Rica Guy" and I have been designing and managing Costa Rica vacations through my company Package Costa Rica for many years. Wouldn't you know it, but I also design and serve as a personal guide on Real Estate Investigation Tours. Taking a tour like this is a great way to get your feet wet without getting burned in the process. It is also a fun way to experience the country. This lens provides the ins and outs of taking such a tour.

11 Great Reasons to Take a Real Estate Tour
Especially If You Already Know Everything.....
So you may be a pretty savvy U.S. asset investor. However, investing in a foreign country is another cup of tea. Costa Rica is "friendly" when it comes to attracting U.S. investment. But the rules of the road, from legal, financial, practical and almost every other standpoint, are vastly different than what one would encounter in a developed country like the U.S.
- There is no structured pricing system in Costa Rica. Information is sketchy and scarse and prices are all over the board.
- There is no regulation of brokers in Costa Rica. Any Tom, Dick, or Harry (including yours truly) can be a broker with no regulation or oversight.
- There are many unscrupulous developers who will gladly sell you a piece of paradise in the middle of the jungle with no hope of there ever being a road to get you in or out.
- In Costa Rica owning coastal (beachfront) real estate is generally severly restricted.
- The Costa Rica legal system is vastly different from that of the U.S.
- Costa Rica is fast developing touristically into a world reknowned destination. However, there are locations that get the vast majority of the tourist traffic and others that may be touted as "hot tourist areas," but only see a tiny percentage of the overall pie. If you want income, you need to know where the tourists are really going.
- Infrastructure in Costa Rica has vastly improved in the last few years, but still has a long way to go. Knowing where the roads are is vital to success in Costa Rica real estate.
- I don't know if I really need to remind you of this, but "they" speak Spanish down here. Do you know how to communicate in that language?
- Do you want to waste a lot of time becoming a "quasi-expert" yourself, or hire a real one to help vault you up the learning curve?
- Costa Rica has become a bit dangerous in the last few years and it pays to know how to stay safe.
- And finally, there are at least 100 other things I could list, but you have to hire me to find out!

Sample Real Estate Tour Itinerary
What it "could" look like....
Model Itinerary
The itinerary below is only a "model" of what the Real Estate Tour might look like. Each tour will be created according to the unique desires and objectives of the customer.
Day 1: Arrive to the San Jose International Airport. The President of Package Costa Rica, Scott Bowers*, will greet you at the airport and transport you to your hotel in San Jose.
Day 2: After breakfast at your hotel you will spend a couple hours with one of San Jose's top real estate attorneys. During this time you will be brought up to speed on the vital information you need to know about investing in Costa Rica real estate.
Days 3 - 4: You will be transported to your first Exploration area (which will be chosen based on information contained in the Form below as well as discussions with me, your personal guide throughout the Tour). We will meet with a top local agent and will spend the afternoon and following day looking at properties in the area.
Days 5 - 6: You will be transported to your next Exploration area. Again a top local agent will greet us at the airport and will assist us in exploring properties in the area the afternoon of the first day as well as all day the following.
Day 7: This day we will return to San Jose for the last night. We will hold a debriefing session so that you will have a chance to ask questions and make plans for following up on what you have discovered.
Day 8: You will be transported to the airport to catch your flight home.
After you return home, we will continue to be available as your advisor for as long as it takes to get the transaction completed to your satisfaction. Yes as your agent, we will be entitled to a commission, but NOT from you, from the Seller! We will also be available to arrange follow up trips as necessary.

Tour Testimonials
from a few satisfied customers.....
"Scott is much more than your average guide. His knowledge of the people and culture of Costa Rica is second to none. When we decided to visit Costa Rica to look at real estate investment opportunities, we did not expect to get a great vacation out of it too. Scott took us to excellent restaurants, beautiful beaches, and introduced us to the best rum we've ever had. His personality and wit added to the experience and we soon became good friends.
When we first thought about looking into real estate, we were not sure where to start. We decided to take Scott's real estate tour and that was the best decision we made. Before even going to Costa Rica, he made arrangements with local agents and set up showings at properties based on criteria we provided. He provided unbiased views on everything we looked at. We were really impressed with his professionalism and he is so much fun. He traveled with us to various parts of the country and educated us on local customs. He made us feel very comfortable since this was our first visit to Costa Rica. He filled the days with many property showings yet provided enough time for relaxation and activities. We highly recommend contacting Scott for a real estate tour or vacation adventure or both."

"Scott, I just wanted to thank you so much for the real estate tour you put together for me, it was "Awesome!" The hotels had some of the best ocean views I have ever seen! The organization of travel from destination to destination was "world class!" This tour was the best decision I could have made to obtain the knowledge needed to make a prudent investment decision. I look forward to planning another trip with you in the near future! Pura Vida!"
