Zeus CostumeZebedee Character from British TV Children's programme 'The Magic Roundabout'. Large red head with a handlebar moustache. Cylindrical body with a large spring instead of feet!

Zebra Traditionally black and white, although some show a brownish tinge. Zebra costumes and masks (partial or overhead) ane available. Alternatively, although a member of the horse family, it can be easier to portray in face and body paint than its relatives.

Zelda Games console players will be familiar with this character from the Legend of Zelda series. The name Zelda is given on an hereditary basis to princesses of a royal family who, despite their powers and magic, have a habit of being kidnapped and imprisoned and thus, like any fair damsel, in need of rescue. The Zelda costume is based on the classic medieval-cum-Middle Earth style also seen in Arwen of Lord of The Rings.

Zero A skeletal hound 'owned' by Jack Skellington in 'A Nightmare Before Christmas'. Dog costumes for this character have been available in the past.

Zeus Greek God - Father of The Gods & Men. Imageright, shows the licensed costume but you could easily wear a Greek or Roman Style of warrior costume or toga.

Ziggy Stardust An alter-ego of the British pop star David Bowie, who pioneered the 1970s 'Glam Rock' look. Bowie wore a glitter jumpsuit and had orange hair. This look later developed into the more elaborate Aladdin Sane featuring the iconic zig-zag make-up.
Zorro CostumeZorro Swordsman hero of Old Spanish California, originally portrayed by Disney and others in TV series' of the 1950s but more recently seen in movies His trademark was to inscribe (or brand) a ''Z' as his 'calling card'. Official licensed character costumes have been available in the past. Otherwise, you can improvise with black trousers, light shirt, cummerbund, broad-rimmed hat, cape and sabre (plus, of course, the mask (either in fabric or a black domino style with ties). A sexy Miss Zorro costume can also be found.

Zuko, Danny Principal character in the popular Grease film (1978). Played by John Travolta opposite Oliva Netwton-John as Sandy Olsson. Costume usually involves a T-Bird jacket (or T-shirt) and jeans.

Zulu For most this costume requires a black catsuit or body colour. A grass or coloured-cloth skirt is used with spear and shield accessories, plus a dark and curly wig. Other accessories such as earrings and jewellery may be used

Zoologist The most famous Zoologist is Charles Darwin. Wear a Victorian costume. You could also go a Steve Irwin, who died in 2006. Wear a safari style suit and carry a blow up crocodille

Zombie Zombies have proved exceptionally popular over the past few years, and in addition to the 'standard' zombie outfitsm costumes for 'professional zombies - doctors, nurses, cheerleaders and so on on have come onto the retail and hire market. Zombie versions of Michael Jackson in 'Thriller' cam be popular for 'Dead Icons' events, along with 'improvised' pop stars such as Johnny Rotting and Bloody Holly.

A Zookeeper - possibly a chance for a couple or group costume, once you've worked out who's who (or what)

Zoot Suit A style of American suit characterized by broad padded shoulders. It was originally seen in the late 1940s and1950s but revived by British pop artist Kid Creole in the 1970s (his female backing group, the Coconuts wore 1940s style outfits). A zoot suit in bright yellow was the iconic image for Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) in the film 'The Mask'. As mentioned before, the look is defined by baggy trousers with tapered hem, a long jacket with padded shoulders, a coloured shirt and a tie or bowtie.
