Start by choosing the cottage plans that will grow with you. Think about your current needs, and factor in any probable changes. How might your life change in 10 or 20 years? Will you need more space in future, or less? Can you manage the changes? Ensure you allow for ageing and mobility challenges! Are there enough windows, and will they let in light without needing artificial light in daytime? Are the room arrangements in keeping with the family's traffic movements, or will the kids run through the kitchen to and from the yard? Important!

Choosing a builder will be an important step toward planning your dream home. Speak to several builders ask all the questions you can. Visit them where they are currently building if possible. Understanding Cottage Floor Plans
Few homeowners are very familiar with construction techniques. A good contractor will break things down for you, but you should take the trouble to familiarize yourself with some basic floor plans or blueprints:Cover Sheet - An artist's view of the finished construction.
Foundation plan - shows the layout and features of the foundation, including crawl spaces or access features.
Floor plans - these show a two-dimensional plan illustrating sizes and locations of rooms, windows and doors, plus cupboards, sewerage and other basic points.
