Couch Cushion Replacement Foam

You can get back that 'like new' look and feel for your couch cushions with some inexpensive replacement foam. This simple project can typically be completed in less than an hour. If your cushions have lost that firm feeling or have that worn appearance, you can easily insert new foam to breathe new life back into your sofa.

Measuring for Cushion Replacement Foam

Step 1 - Selecting the right size cushion foam.

The first step is to measure your existing cushion foam so that you are sure you select the right replacement size. It is best if this is done with the foam removed from the cushion sleeve to ensure accuracy.

Measure the thickness, the longest edge for the length, and the longest edge for the width. Some cushions are not exact squares or rectangles, and may have 'ears'. So it is necessary to accommodate for these dimensions, so that your replacement foam can be cut to the proper size.

Record these measurements.

Determine if you want a more firm, or less firm feel for your replacement cushions.

Ordering Your Cushion Replacement Foam

Selecting the right size.

Now that you have your measurements, add up all of the lengths that you recorded. You should now have your overall length, the width, and the thickness.

Couch cushion replacement foam typically comes in one large piece. From that piece, you will cut out the desired size of your replacement cushion. So you will want to make sure that you select a replacement piece of foam that covers the overall length of all cushions, covers the width of your cushions, and is the proper thickness.

You can find discount couch cushion replacement foam at the link below.

Cut Your Foam to Size

Once you have received your replacement cushion foam, you will need to cut it to size.

Remove your existing cushion foam from their covers. Place them on top of your new replacement foam piece. Using a marker, trace an outline exactly around the edges of the existing cushions. You will want to trace this line as close to the edges as possible. You now have a template for cutting out your replacement cushions.

It is best to use an electric carving knife to cut your replacement foam. This will allow you to make precise cuts with very little effort. If you do not have an electric carving knife, you can use a long, sharp knife. Please use caution when handling sharp instruments.

Make sure that you are cutting perpendicular to the foam cushion. You want to make exact straight up and down cuts. There is no room for error here.

Cut these one at a time.

Stuff Your Cushions Back Into the Covers

Almost done!

Now that you have your replacement foam cut, it is time to stuff them back into their cushion covers. If your cushion was wrapped with dracon fibre wrap, then re-wrap the cushion before reinserting.

You may need to compress the cushion foam to make it fit back in the cover more easily.

Once inserted, you will need to make sure that all of the edges are square, and flush with the edges of the covering.

Enjoy Your New Couch Cushions

Job well done!

Now you can sit back and enjoy your new couch cushions. You will love that new firm feeling. Your guest will now get to sit 'on' your couch, instead of 'in' your couch.
