Count von Count - Sesame Street's Number Guy
While the Count might have been a one-joke character on Sesame Street, he has managed to play that joke for more than 30 seasons now. From cookies to bats to stars to pigs, nothing escapes his steady numbering. No number too small to bring him joy, no number too big to intimidate him.
"Greetings. I am the
Count. Do you know why they call me the Count? Because I love to count things!"

Count von Count: More than just numbers
When he's not cackling in his castle or counting cookies with Cookie Monster (or moonlighting on Dancing with the Stars apparently), the Count has quite a full life. He was a DJ for his own radio station on the album The Count's Countdown, and hosted a music video show in Count it Higher: Great Music Videos from Sesame Street. He also served as an announcer in Learning About Numbers. He's also made a few movie appearances, including cameos in The Muppet Movie (in the finale) and The Muppets Take Manhattan (in the wedding), and feature spots in the Sesame Street movies Follow That Bird and Elmo in Grouchland. He was also in The Muppets: A Celebration of 30 Years and A Muppet Family Christmas.
The Count and several other Sesame Street characters made a special appearance on the episode of The Muppet Show with Marty Feldman as guest host. The Muppets were doing their version of 1001 Arabian nights and when Fozzie Bear (as the head of the 40 thieves) calls "Open Sesame!", the cast of Sesame Street comes out.
On November 14, 1988, Count co-hosted The Today Show with Meryl Sheep.

Hmmm. The Count is a character on a children's show, so it's easy to assume he's not a vampire, but just a crazy Eastern European guy. But let's look more closely, shall we?
Fang-like teeth? Check. Swirling cape? Check. Lack of reflection? Check. Creepy castle? Check. Presence of bats? Check. But is that enough evidence?
The character of the Count was definitely based on the Bela Lugosi version of Dracula, in voice and appearance at least. The early version was fairly sinister, with hypnotic powers and the ability to stun people by waving his hands. He also plays the pipe organ and has been seen playing the violin.
Still, is that enough? Unlike a traditional vampire, the Count enjoys sunlight and is usually seen sleeping at night. Which can be explained by extreme sunblock and a desire to fit in. We've never seen him drink blood and he cannot turn into a bat. Again, maybe it's just something he does off screen.
What do you think?
Is the Count actually a vampire?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byThe evidence is overwhelming!

He makes a joke about a mirror in one of the episodes about counting mailbags. He says, "You are a terrible mirror. No reflection on you of course." I say friendly vampire.

But yes there is no doubt he is ment to be a vampire!

The history of vampires tells us that, before the movies, vampires were a lot different than the vampires we know today. In the old days vampires were often seen in daylight, and not all of them drank blood, some of them were just demons that went around scaring folks to make them have nightmares. It wasn't until the book Dracula came out that vampires became night-lurking blood-drinks exclusively. So my answer? Yes! Count Von Count is most defiantly a vampire.

I think the Sesame Street producers turn off the cameras when the Count goes to town drinking blood to keep it rated "G." Someday, the footage will show up on YouTube though.

Count von Count: All the facts

:"The Count" redirects here; for the nobility title, see Count. For other uses, see Count (disambiguation).
Count von Count, often known as The Count, is one of the Muppet characters on Sesame Street, performed by Jerry Nelson. The Count is a vampire modeled after Béla Lugosi's interpretation of Count Dracula.
The Count's main purpose is educating children on simple mathematical concepts, most notably counting. The Count has an obsessive love of counting (arithmomania); he will count anything and everything, regardless of size, amount, or how much annoyance he is causing the other Muppets or human cast.
Some traditional vampire myths depict vampires as having a similar obsession with counting small objects, providing a means of distracting them by tossing a handful of seeds or salt on the ground. This is seen as a protection from the vampire, similar to the use of garlic. The Count's own arithmomania may simply be a coincidence, however, inspired by the pun on his title of nobility. According to his theme song, "The Song of the Count": "When I'm alone, I count myself. One count!"
