Essay Help! Different Types of Essays!

A list of the different types of essays.

The Five-Paragraph Essay - These usually involve writing three body paragraphs, which will all present an idea to support the Essay. This must include supporting evidence and quotations; and finally a conclusion.

Academic Essays - Usually long, and discursive. It is used as a scholarly convention, to allow others to understand the basis of the facts presented by the essay's argument.

Descriptive Essays - These are used to paint a vivid picture of a person, object, place, debate or event.

Narrative Essays - These types of essays are usually used to subjectively outline a course of events.

Compare / Contrast Essays - Use this type of essay to develop a relationship between two arguments or points. Usually similarities or differences.

Persuasive Essays - This type of essay functions to persuade readers to agree with your main points.

Argumentative Essay - Often used to address controversial issues. You must provide evidence and facts to back up your statements.

Non-Literary Essays - These can include photography, musical, film and visual arts essays.

General Mistakes To Avoid Whilst Writing Coursework!

Check over essays and coursework before handing them in to avoid these mistakes.

Failing To Answer The Question! Remember to keep checking the question whilst compiling your coursework!

Failing To Understand What Is Being Asked! Don't answer your essay in a narrative way, if you are being asked to 'compare and contrast.'

Sources and References! Use all sources given by your teachers, and don't forget to find some of your own, and reference them correctly!

Presentation! Some students can loose marks in their coursework for poor presentation. Avoid this by checking spelling, punctation and grammar, creating a good table of contents and making sure your files/pages are organised neatly.
