Do You Actually Need A Court Record Search?

Well...

That honestly all depends on what you consider to be important. Most people that use a court record search are usually business owners that are in need of a court record search for their business, business partners, or employees. Then can however be used so that the average individual can look up certain individuals or businesses to avoid potential problems.

I first started using court record searches a little over a year ago when I was taught a hard lesson with one of my online shirt businesses. To make a long story short, I didn't want to spend the extra $40 for the one time to run a search on a business prospects. Later ended up learning the hard way that the "prospect" was a scam artist that had an extensive list if offenses and court dates.

Needless to say, I no longer skimp out on this very important tool for my business. I see to many business owners and individuals never utilize a court record search when they need it most, and funny enough, they almost always seem to get burned and learn the hard way....like I did.

Court Record Search And How To Get One Done Online Effectively

If you need to perform court record search, then you may want to search on the World Wide Web. The internet can make things much easier when searching, as opposed to going to a local courthouse and searching by hand through thousands of sheets of paper of confusing court documents. This is especially true if you are searching for someone not in your local or state jurisdiction.

The first thing you must know is that most files on most people are open records available to the general public if they really want to. When doing a court record search online, you must know the state of the person who you are looking for. If you live in Tennessee, and the person or case you are looking up has been to court in Alabama, then it wont show up on a Tennessee court record search. Also, a state search will only give you broad results. Narrow your search down into county or city searches.

Next, be sure you know the full name of the person or case number you are looking up in your court record search. If you do not know a full name, find the closest thing to it that you can. Sometimes, even a nickname could work, as most courts will keep aliases on file, but only if it is an uncommon nickname. Something like "Junior" may not work very well, because many people go by that name. On the other hand, a guy in New York who goes by the nickname, "Tex" may help you a lot. But, a full name is still ideal.

Also do you know the date of the trial? There might be two near identical cases with identical names, but years apart. So find out which case is which and what the results were. Any information you may have such as the name of the judge, attorneys, or witnesses can help you greatly.

Always remember that most US courts are very slow when it comes to any part of the court system. Some cases are not heard until a year or two after charges are filed, so if you cannot find the case you're looking for, it may not have reached a court yet. And even if it did, it may take a while to file and post online, especially in large cities like New York or Los Angeles.

Hopefully next time you perform a court record search online, these tips will helps speed up your search.
