THE BOOKS THAT HAVE CHANGED MY LIFE
Or, at least, the books that have gotten me off to a good start
I'm doing my best to keep my opinions out of it and focus on those books he pulls off the shelf himself and brings over for reading.
Teddy loves each and every one of these books and is pretty sure that every other two-year-old (as well as some three- and four-year-olds) will love these books too.
Topping the list is School Bus by Donald Crews. There are not a lot of words in this one and as a result it leaves a lot of room for a child's imagination to take over and tell the adult what is going on.
Next comes Thomas' Big Blue Treasury. This contains three Thomas the Tank Engine stories. Teddy can recite them because he's heard them so often and loves them so well. We could do another page on just our top ten Thomas the Tank Engine books - there are lots of wonderful ones out there spanning a wide range of ages.
Baby Einstein: Van Gogh's World of Color is lots of fun for parents to read and also feel that they've learned a bit about fine arts along the way. Great for those of us who are compulsive multi-taskers. The Baby Einstein books are another series that could get us talking all day. There are many that Teddy loves and they cover a wide variety of topics.
Who doesn't love Elmo? Elmo's World: Animals is a delightful book filled with animals and the sounds they make. It's lots of fun for adult and child to moo and oink and figure out which creature makes which sound.
Did you know that The Eensy Weensy Spider story/song has more than one verse? This book is great for any child who loves to sing the song. And it's great for the parent who may have been going crazy listening to the same thing again and again. We've even tried to create more verses of our own.
Another classic story is Good Night Moon. Reading this is a wonderful way to wind down at the end of the day and get ready for bedtime. And every parent I know appreciates more help at bed time!
Finally, Dora the Explorer, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George and Blue's Clues books provide lots of entertainment for your child away from the TV.
So if you're looking for something to read to a child in your life, here's a place to start. These make great gifts and will get any child off to a good start on literacy.
Please comment in our guest book if you have suggestions of wonderful books we may not have come across yet.
