cow joke
Have you heard the one...
A lady from the city and her traveling companion were riding the train through Nebraska when she noticed some cows.
"What a cute bunch of cows!" she remarked.
"Not a bunch, herd", her friend replied.
"Heard of what?"
"Herd of cows."
"Of course I've heard of cows."
"No, a cow herd."
"What do I care what a cow heard. I got no secrets to keep from a cow!"

Origin of Cow Appreciation Day
Where the tradition started
Well, your guess is as good as mine. It is a holiday, albeit unofficial and it is celebrated on many days throughout July. It probably started as a joke and evolved into the fun tradition it is for many today. It's all in fun and everyone seems to enjoy it, so why not? Go out and start a tradition of your own for Cow Appreciation Day. Maybe I should check and see if there is a Squid Appreciation Day!

More cow information
General cow knowledge.
According to the Nebraska Cattle Feeders Association; there are approximately 1,940,000 cows in this state alone. There are 1,783,432 humans living in Nebraska. They do some pretty severe damage to cars when they wander across the interstate, can you imagine what would happen if we all woke up one morning and cows were more intelligent than people? I'm just sayin'...
When traveling through many of the mid-western states, it is not uncommon at all to see many herds of cattle grazing on the vast amounts of pasture land throughout the area. Holstein are the cows with the black and white spots and Guernsey are the brown cows. Have you ever noticed a herd of cattle and seen one or two completely white cows? They actually have their roots from cows from France called Charolais. They first made their appearance in the United States in the 1930's and since then have been interbred with local cattle. Although white cattle are rare, you do see them occasionally in various herds throughout the country. Now you know.

- One of life's greatest pleasures is to see cows enjoying the hay you've just given them and to listen to the contented munching! They're magical creatures.
