Glad to be Alive
I've always heard of people having spiritual reactions to music and scoffed at them. That is, until I experienced a live Cowboy Mouth show.
Never before had I witnessed such pure, unadulterated fun. There is something completely different about this band. They don't have the crazy teenage groupies, or the slightly creepy older crowd set that follows a band religiously for years after their peak. Fred LeBlanc, lead singer and drummer, commands an almost eerie power over the crowd. He will have an entire venue crouched down on their knees, then jumping up and down completely unaware of how ridiculous they look.
Their whirlwind show is a non-stop celebration of being alive. Even when they broach serious topics, such as the destruction of their hometown New Orleans after hurricane Katrina, the focus is not on destruction. Rather, it is on rebuilding, on moving back to the city, celebrating another Mardi Gras and enjoying another day with the sun on our face.
The band was perhaps best described by Cake magazine : "...on a bad night they'll tear the roof off the joint and on a good night, they'll save your soul."
Jump up and down, act like you are five years old, and celebrate being alive.

Review:
Fearless may seem a departure from the no-holds-bar rock exercism that is Cowboy Mouth, but it grows on you within a matter of minutes. With up tempo numbers like "Kelly Ripa" and the best song about the female form "Belly", some new fan favorites like "Disconnected" and "Anything" the album is a smashing success in getting the listener to have fun, sing along, and yurn for more. Fans can look forward to finally hearing sassy Bassist Regina on the song "Tell the Girl your sorry" and the ever charismatic and talented Griff on "Follow me." Be prepared to give the charming drummer and lead vocalist Fred some rhythm (my fellow concert goers will atest) and a great lead guitar from normally rhythm guitarist JP on "outside lookin' in". And if you dont mind me saying, I'm awfully partial to the "The Lord knows I'm Drinkin'"....I get it and it gets me! Great album, great band, great people. How do you tell someone how great this band is? Its Easy! The music winds me up and makes me glad to be alive. And trust me, no other band will make you have this much fun. So go buy this album and enjoy Cowboy Mouth and the album Fearless, thatswhatimtalkinabout.

Post - Katrina Cowboy Mouth
Lyrics for "The Avenue"
This song was written after Katrina in response to the devastation the city endured:water
broke past the levee
my heart
beats hard and heavy
theres so much more to say
but I'm Silent
for now
i'm lost deep
in the emotions
that hit me
just like an ocean
that seemed to refreshing once
but its not
for now
because the marching bands will roll
ill find my city in my soul
because i plan on growing old
on the avenue
my best friends house
lies beneath the teardrops
god has bequeathed
to add to the pool of rage
that i float for now
i never thought i would see in my lifetime
my memory
but fate has a way to show
who's the boss
for now
chorus
and the parades will ride again
ill see my family and my friends
because this cannot be the end
of the avenue
its so hard to take this hurt
and hide it on a shelf
its just cause i never
want to be from somewhere else
deep in my darkest hour
standing alone in the shower
i let my emotions go
for now
chorus
and the parades will ride again
ill see my family and my friends
because this will not be the end of the avenue
and yes the marching bands will roll
ill find my city in my soul
because theres nowhere else to go but
the avenue

- I saw Cowboy Mouth here in College Station, TX last month. Your lens pretty well nails it, as does the quote from Cake magazine.
They are coming back next month. Guess where I'll be...lol. Front row again!
Also, if you are fortunate enough to meet these guys before or after the show, they are really cool. I got to talk guitars with JP and Griff. Very down to earth folks.
Except the show. I've only been to two other rock shows, and this was the most fun of all of them. The others? Van Halen and Steve Vai. The bar's pretty high...Cowboy Mouth is a blast live.
