Sleep Apnea

There are several treatments available for sleep apnea depending on the seriousness of the health condition. Sleep apnea is not a grave disorder but considering the different complications it can give such hypertension, stroke and heart failure; it should be given utmost attention and consideration. Continuous positive airflow pressure (CPAP) is the best form of treatment for people suffering from sleep apnea. This is also called nasal continuous positive airflow pressure (nCPAP). It is a device that delivers pressurized air to keep the passage of airway in your throat open during sleep. This is suitable for all sleep apnea patients of different age range. However, this is not recommended for sleep apnea patients who are not suffering sleepiness during the day because they will not feel the effect of the treatment.

The CPAP Machine

The CPAP works in this way: the machine is placed on a table beside the patient's bed, a mask will be connected to the device and then fitted just over the nose. The machine has the ability to supply a steady source of air and given the right pressure, it can stop the tissues from folding up during the sleep. The use of CPAP can restore your normal sleeping pattern. You will not struggle at night forcing yourself to fall asleep. Since you have enough sleep, you be attentive and watchful during the day reducing the possibility of falling asleep. You will also have a better mood with lesser worry and misery. Given that you are well recharged, you can have a better focus on whatever you are doing.
This method of treatment works really well for the young and old. Then again, some patients find it hard adjusting to the use of the device. The device is often bulky causing discomfort to the user causing them to stop the treatment. The first few nights of the treatment may not be comfortable but in the long run, they will get used to it. The only constant problem about this approach is the kind of mask being used for the machine. Common masks are those that are worn for the nose only, others are for the nose and mouth and the last one is the prong-style which is fitted to the nostril. Frequent complaints about the mask include irritation in the nose, eye irritation and the feeling of claustrophobia. These problems can be addressed by finding the suitable type of mask to be used for each and every patient. One mask style cannot work for everyone. Using a lightweight mask or a transparent mask can solve problems about bulkiness and claustrophobia. Nasal pillows can work magic for those being irritated in the nose and eye.

No method can work and perform in the same manner for all patients because they have individual differences and every case should be considered unique. But in order to save yourself from the pain and cost of a surgery, it is best to use a CPAP in treating sleep apnea. It only needs a proper mask to work wonders for you while using the CPAP machine.
