Comparison of CPR Training Companies, Online and Off

This lens is going to become a tool that will help users decide where to go for the best CPR training available both online and offline. It's going to include a data matrix laying out all of the features that each company offers.

ProCPR.org

Quality Training: When you want it, Where you want it

We're going to start with the one that I consider to be the absolute best. ProCPR is an impressive company with depth, reinforcement of skills, and training that can't be beat. And the video library is completely free!

Website: www.procpr.org

Customer Service: E-mail, Live Chat, Phone, Contact Form with incredible service.

Training: High-Quality Video, Text, Scenario-based test challenge with reinforced training throughout

Credentials: Been around since 2003, found literally everywhere, EMT founded.

Online Only? No, they also offer Blended Course for CPR, if you need hands-on skills check-off.

Other Courses Offered: First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens

Refund Policy: 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee.

First Aid Web

I'm very wary of this one, they don't really ensure that you've actually participated in the test before you purchase. And offer no refunds. Buyer beware.

Website: www.firstaidweb.com

Customer Service: Contact Form, No Phone Support, No Live Chat

Training: Text and Drawings, you do not need to pass a test to purchase (although they recommend that you do, you can skip over it and order a certificate). You can even get the card customized to say what you'd like it to say.

Credentials: Been around since 1999, exclusive partnership with National Health and Safety Foundation®

Online Only? Yes

Other Courses Offered: First Aid

Refund Policy: "If you are dissatisfied with the Material or the website for any reason, then your sole and exclusive remedy is to discontinue accessing and using the Site - ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED." (via Terms and Conditions)

Emergency University

This one is more comparable to ProCPR (and even have a course they call "Pro CPR," oddly enough. It links to a Blended BLS Training page.)

Website: www.emergencyuniversity.com

Customer Service: Contact Form, Phone Support, E-mail Support, No Live Chat

Training: Text and Animation. You must first register before going through the training, and however good the training is, it is not the same as video training.

Credentials: Been around since 2000, claim documented 50-state approval.

Online Only? No, they also offer a Blended Course.

Other Courses Offered: First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens

Refund Policy: "Refunds will be issued if the online training modules have not been initiated, minus a $10 processing fee (credit card processing, bank processing, issuance of credit or check fees)." (via FAQ) But does this mean that, once you've initiated the training module, and in fact, finished the training, that you can't get a refund? I appears so.

CPRToday

This one is good looking at first glance, but the testing has not changed over the years.

Website: www.cprtoday.com

Customer Service: Contact Form, No Phone Support, E-mail Support, No Live Chat

Training: Text. You read the materials, you pass the test, and then you pay.

Credentials: Been around since 1999, reviewed by National Health & Safety Foundation®, claim acceptance in more places than anyone.

Online Only? Yes.

Other Courses Offered: First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, AED

Refund Policy: You have to jump through a few hoops. "1. Student submits his/her request for a refund in writing within 30 calendar days of registration by fax to (310) 496-0212.

2. Said request must be accompanied by a copy of certification from an alternate facility dated within 30 days of the request for a refund.

3. Exceptions to items 1 and 2 above may be granted at sole discretion of CPRToday! Inc." (via Terms and Conditions)

iCPRi

A new kid in town, looks fairly impressive at the get-go, but the test leaves much to be desired.

Website: www.icpri.com

Customer Service: Contact Form, No Phone Support, E-mail Support, No Live Chat

Training: One video (with a person floating in a purple void), and a lot of text and a few pictures.

Credentials: Been around since 2007, claim all courses are Nationally Accredited.

Online Only? Yes.

Other Courses Offered: First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, AED

Refund Policy: 30-Day Refund Policy

Wrap-up

ProCPR seems to offer a more exciting and entertaining program, while continuously adding new features and updating the involving video trainings.

FirstAidWeb hasn't changed much over the years, and seems to offer a test-free card. Everything they have is out in the open, in return you get nothing more than you see when you've read everything on the site.

Emergency University has a lot of selling points, almost to the point of sensory overload, and the substance is alright, but not as good.

CPRToday is pretty to look at, but doesn't have a lot in the way of substance besides text.

iCPRi does have a little bit of video, and looks like they're making an effort to take the best of everyone else, and push out a nice little website. It is just lacking in a few areas.
