3 ways to Overclocking your computer without using a CPU Overclocking Software. The following 3 ways:

One- Through your Bus Speed,
Bus Speed: When increased, it makes the whole system run faster and not only the CPU. Most PC's have a speed of 66MHz or 100MHz. It defines the speed that your motherboard and other components run at.

Two- By changing the multiplier settings,
Multiplier Settings: Multipliers are located on your motherboard in the forms x1, x1.5, x2, etc%u2026 When the Bus speed is multiplied by any one of these, it results in the final processor speed. For example, if you have a bus speed of 100 and a multiplier of x5, your CPU speed is 500MHz.

Three- By changing the Bios!
BIOS: In some BIOS's you are given the option to change your CPU speed. Using this you won't even have to open your computer case. When you first boot your PC enter your BIOS and start looking for any option that allows you to change your CPU speed or voltage. If you do find it, then it's as simple as changing the number to a higher value.

And the honest truth is it is not a hard process that you need to fear doing. It is a simple process. That can be done by newbies.

Asus created another great BIOS with the built in cpu overclocking software, Overclocking the Asus P8P67 is pretty easy but can be a little scary at first. Once you get to the Bios you will come to 'EZ Mode'. Just hit escape and then select Advanced Mode for settings and options. In AI Tweaker tab you will find overclocking tools and voltages. If you've got this far and are still unsure of overclocking, the OC Tuner equals Turbo Key II switch on the actual PCB. As both of these will automatically overclock the CPU for you.

The question is can it be done? The Answer is yes laptops can be overclocked. The problem with overclocking laptops is heat. From this lens you should have learned that overclocking you computer causes your computer to work a little bit harder, this causes more heat. For a desktop adding more fans, adding more vertilation, and even going the extreme with adding a water cooling system, can reduce the heat. Remember desktops have the room inside the case to customize however you want. With laptops there is not extra room to customize.

So the problem with overclocking your laptop is heat. There is no way to add extra fans, or more ventilation, or going the extreme and adding a water cooling system. My suggestions would be buy a cheap desktop and customize to meet your gaming needs. Or buy the expensive gaming laptops. However if you are still set on overclocking your laptop, you can try a cooling pad, such as the dual-fan Antec Notebook Cooler, Xpad Laptop Desk, or BlueLounge Cool Feet.

Some of these cooling pads can lower your laptops a few degrees. These few degrees may be enough to overclock your laptop for a game or two. However even with a cooling pad your laptop will run hotter. So if you are going to overclock watch the temperature.

Overclocking with a cpu overclocking software. Now there are many overclocking utilities on the web that you can down load for your computer. To use caution make sure you download the correct overclocking software that is compatible with your system.

Now if you opt out of using a overclocking utility you can overclock manually. Power down your computer and when it boots back up hit the either F1, F2, Del, ESC, or F10.

Word of caution: PC enthusiasts who attempt to increase their system's performance by raising bus speeds and increasing their CPU speed beyond the figure at which it was sold and designed to run. They also quite frequently need to raise the voltage of these devices, since they are pushing them harder, which also generates more heat. Overclocking will void your CPU warranty, could cause complete system failure requiring component replacement, and can cause random system instability. However it can be done and safely.

Got to your bios you want to Increase Motherboard Clock Speed or FSB speed in 5-10MHz increments. Reboot after each increment to ensure that the system can still boot into Windows properly. When you have reached instablity when booting go back to the last known setting that your computer booted up correctly.

Keep an eye on the processor's temperature in the BIOS. Remember that it should be under 70°C to avoid limiting the overclocking potential and triggering the processor's thermal throttling feature. You can find utilities that wil display temperature and cpu performance, this will rmain on your destop letting you keep an on things.

If your bios is locked and you can not change setting then next look for any utility or cpu overclocking software that will allow you to overclock, I would recommend trying SoftFSB. Really if your bios will not let you change settings there is not much you can do. Usually this is with older crappy computers.
