When It Comes To Crafting, It's Essential To Familiarize Yourself With The Tools Of The Trade

Glue guns are a basic necessity for anyone who loves to craft as much as I do! Your choices for glue guns are endless, so this lens will introduce you to glue gun basics. I typcially use an inexpensive Sure-Bonder, and have always been happy with their performance. In fact, they have outlasted some of the more expensive glue guns I have experimented with!

This lens is my project for Days 6 & 7 of The Get Cracking Challenge with Bonnie & Robin. The assignment for Day 6 is to write about an invention that you can't live without, Day 7 is to write about something sticky. Since I have fallen a bit behind in the challenge, I've decided to integrate the two topics by discussing my love for crafting with a hot glue gun.

Getting behind schedule is a sticky situation that provides me with the opportunity to get back on track with my daily lens building assignments! So, with that being said, let's go have a little chat about glue guns.

I'm participating in the Get Cracking Challenge with Bonnie & Robin... I invite you to follow along as we take the challenge to build a lens a day for as many days as we can keep on cracking! To learn more about the challenge, visit Bonnie & Robin at the "Get Cracking" Challenge Page at Facebook.

Inventor Of The Hot Glue Gun

Obituary

I searched and searched, but the obituary was the only information I could find about the inventor of the hot glue gun! If you ever run across further information, please feel free to let me know and I'll be happy to provide an update.

I Recommend A Glue Gun With A Trigger

Glue Guns Are Not Created Equal!

If you plan to spend a lot of time crafting, you will want to make certain that you purchase a glue gun with a trigger. The other type is thumb fed, and they are very awkward to use!

The trigger action provides a nice, smooth flow of glue and makes it easier to place the glue exactly where you want it.

For basic crafting I prefer the high temp glue, but I choose the low temp glue when working with delicate materials like plastic, lace or delicate fabrics. Low temp glue guns are also good for some paper crafting projects.

When You Get Hot Glue On Your Fingers...

Keep A Container Of Cold Water Nearby To Help Cool Your Fingertips

It's inevitable... when you use a hot glue gun, there are going to be times that you WILL burn your fingers. Take every precaution, but be prepared for those times that you just didn't see it coming!

Hot glue sticks to your skin, and just keeps burning. Dipping your fingers into the cold water will cool the glue immediately, and will help decrease the burning sensation. It's no fun to try to craft with injured digits, so please...

Enough Said?

Well, there you have it! As you can see, choosing a glue gun is more about personal preference in style and color than it is about function. They all serve the same purpose, so the most important issue is to choose a glue gun that rests comfortably in your hand. Once you find a good fit, simply insert a glue stick, plug it in... then get on with the crafting!

Thanks for visiting... I'll see you again soon!
