For example you would need a fine pointed pairto cut around intricate outlines or to get into tight corners. If you use a lot of fabric its worth buying some dressmaking scissors as these leave a lovely crisp edge to the fabric. But remeber not to use them for paper as this will blunt them. Metal thread snippers are also are also a good idea to have in your craft box there fine point makes it so much easier to open seams or unpick that piece of embroidery you have done wrong.

Using decorative scissor can really enhance your cards and scrapbooks. Decorative scissors. are similar to pinking shears, but instead of the zig zag pinking blade there are many other decorative blades to be found, scalloped, wavy, & deckled are the probably the most popular but there are lots more. You can use these scissors to decorate a photo mat or create a border or edge on a scrapbook or greeting cards. Double matting with different style scissors can also enhance your craft work.Its best to limit your projects to two decorative patterns or your project could look to fussy. Always try to use the best scissor cut for the project, after all you wouldn't want a colonial style cut on a child playing with a clown birthday card
If you want to mix and match scissors deckle, pinking and scallop are good ones to go together. Always have copies of your pictures then if you don't like the cut you can always try another. A good idea is to practice your cuts on pieces of scrap paper to see what it looks like before cutting your pictures.

Taking Care of your Scissors

Taking care of your scissorsTo keep a perfect cutting blade on your scissors you must try not to drop them, "easier said than done" I here you say.
When you drop your scissors on the floor there is a good chance that you will damage the blades. To check if you have slowly open then close them. They should close smoothly, if you feel them catching you have damaged the cutting edge. You might still be able to use them if the nick is not large but the cut will not be as clean. The only way to fix this it to have them sharpened and sometimes if the nick in the damaged blade is too big it is not always possible to fix.
If your scissors wobble or twist when you open them it probably means that the tension screw needs tightening
Never leave your scissors dirty, remove all traces of any glues, slithers of paper or chemicals used. Clean gently with warm soapy water and dry with a towel. Never leave scissors wet or they could go rusty. An occasional oil lubricant is also a good idea.
Finally try to keep one pair of scissors for one craft for example don't use dressmaking scissors for cutting paper and visa versa. If you cut a lot of projects that use glues then keep a pair especially for that. Remember good craft scissors cost money look after them.

It is so easy to create professional creases and folds to all your paper crafts. One side of the board is designed for card and paper and the other side is for box making. The Dovecraft Wonderboard has fixed grooves and is also supplied with an embossing tool. Following the instructions for your chosen project, place your card or paper face down on the board, positioned where the score line needs to be, and using the embossing tool put light pressure onto the cardstock. It then stretches the paper / cardstock down into the groove to produce a crisp clean line. A top tip here - if the scoreboard is giving a dragging or sticking sensation then use either a little wax on the card stock, a t-light candle or even a bar of soap can be used here (if you use a nice scented one you get scented cardstock too) take the card off the board and using the folder, put pressure onto the crease so it lays nice crisp and flat - there you have it, perfect folds and creases every time.

Choosing a Craft Knife
A Craft knife is a must tool for any crafter. A craft knife can be used for so many crafts, and can cut through so many materials. Craft knives are idea for any type of paper craft. It doesn't matter if the paper is thin or thick a good craft knife will easily make a clean cut. Craft knives are also good for cutting through plastic sheets or various thicknesses.Most craft knives come with replaceable blades so therefore taking away the need for sharpening. but please take care disposing of the old blade.
Deciding on which knife is best for you all depends on the sort of craft you are doing. If you are doing decoupage a Swivel Headed Knife is for you as it easier to cut more precisely. If you are card making then a Hobby Knife is the one for you.
Most craft knifes are relatively cheap and once brought could last you a lifetime with only ever needing replacement blades. As with all tools try not to expose to substances that could corrode the knife. If this happens always clean your knife before putting it away, and always make sure you store your knife in a secure place when not in use.
