    In my childhood, we blew the insides out of the eggs (through a tiny hole in the bottom), then after we painted it, we could keep it forever!

    If you tie the fabric of a silk tie around an egg when you boil it, the whole pattern will transfer to the egg. A neat tie in a yard sale, can make for a gorgeous egg. (Per Martha)
