Kids LOVE Crafts!!!

My fondest memories of elementary school are making the crafts and art projects, I still have some of those projects today..they are yellow and crumbling to pieces but I have them and I am not letting them go!

Being that I am computer illiterate and want to learn how to do things, I made a website called www.craftkitsforkids.com. My friends and co-workers go to it quite a bit and I am fortunate to have hits on it!

Please make sure to scroll down my blog as I have links to printable coloring pages, crafts etc. that I am continually developing and can be printed off for FREE!

Also, I am always looking for good projects and ideas to add to it so if there is something you think would fit well, please let me know and I would definitely consider adding it to the site!

There is a lot of free craft and coloring printables plus ideas, recipes etc. Also, I have a craft store on the site where kids kits can be purchased.

I love arts and crafts and I am happy to share anything related to it!

DOES ART EDUCATION HELP THE BRAIN AND LEARNING?

LOOKING FOR A GREAT WAY TO ENCOURAGE BEGINNING READERS?

Get a free issue, poster, and stickers with a 1-year trial subscription.

This wonderful magazine called Zootles is geared towards 2-6 year olds and the word-and-picture format is a great way to sharpen a child's reading skills. There is also the Zoobooks which is the magazine geared toward the 4-12 year olds. Both magazines are the "your everything-you-wanted-to-know guide to the world's most fascinating animals, birds, reptiles, and insects." I highly recommend both magazines, the kids love it and are so interested in the animal content!

Zootles Magazine for Kids 2-6

A vivid, compelling, and child-friendly introduction to animals in their natural habitats, Zootles has over 20 pages of incredible photos and fascinating facts. Zootles offers early learners all the right building blocks--letters, sounds, numbers, words, colors, shapes, and concepts--to set them up for school success. Each page bursts with bright colors and features the best photography and illustrations. And each issue includes a special section for parents.

DON'T LET THEM STAND ALONE

My youngest brother just graduated from the Marines in November 2007 and the ceremony is a huge deal for the guys, girls and their families.
My brother told us that a few guys did not have anyone coming because their families could not afford it. I was so upset up by this that I started researching and found the www.usmcgrad.org website, they are a nonprofit organization that raises money to help the families in need. I made a video for Youtube to try and promote the website and the financial needs of the recruit families, it was put on the usmcgrad.org website and let me tell you....I tell everyone about it!!!
These guys and girls go through @$#&!!! and should NOT be standing alone on graduation day!

SALT PLAYDOUGH

1 cup salt
1 cup water
1/2 cup plus more flour
Saucepan

Mix the salt, water, and 1/2 cup of flour in a saucepan. Stir and cook the mixture over medium heat. Remove it from the heat when it's thick and rubbery. As the mixture cools, knead in enough additional flour to make the dough workable.

THIRSTY CELERY

Great art and science project/experiment!

This is a good activity to show your child how plants drink water through their stalks and where the water goes.

Clear glass or vase
Water
Food Coloring
Knife
Celery stalk
White carnation or daisy(optional)

Fill the glass or vase halfway with water and let your child add enough food coloring to tint the water a bright color.
Trim the end of a celery stalk and place it in the water. Your child will enjoy watching the celery change color over the next few days.
If you like, use a white carnation or daisy in place of the celery.

CRAZY CRAYONS

Broken crayon pieces, paper removed
Clean, empty tin cans
Pot of very hot water
Plastic film canisters
Candy or soap mold(optional)
Muffin pan
Aluminum foil(optional)

Option 1:
Have your child sort the crayon pieces by color. Place the pieces in the tin cans, one color per can. Set the tin cans in a pot of very hot water until the crayons have melted. Pour a small amount (approximately 1/4 inch) into each film canister. When the wax hardens, add a second color in the same way. Continue the process until you have a crayon that's a rainbow of layered colors. Or if you like, pour the melted wax into a candy or soap mold to make a shaped crayon.

Option 2:
Preheat your oven to 400'F. Have your child place the crayon pieces in a well greased muffin pan(or a muffin pan lined with aluminum foil), one color per section. Or to make the crayons have a stained glass effect, mix the colors. Place the pan in the oven for a few minutes, until the crayons have melted. Remove the pan from the oven and let the crayons cool completely before removing them from the pan.

About Shellonline

Hello fellow Squidoos!

I am smiling and shaking my head as I am typing because I have once again put myself in a place of unfamiliar territory!  My profession is an elementary teacher also with an art degree so as you can already imagine...I love those kids to do crafts! My weakest link(so to speak..) is computer stuff and anything related to electronics so I have been on a mission to make websites, make a video on Youtube, join affiliate programs etc.  I really do not know what I am doing but I want to learn...so as I tell my children(my own personal children and classroom children) good thing for mistakes because making mistakes are the best way to learn!  So.....your patience with me is so ever appreciated and by the way..I am thrilled to be here and to have you reading this! Thanks so much!-Michelle
