Put Your Beach Treasures on Display

I'll bet every time you get to the seashore you take home a few treasures.

Here is a nice way to display all of those beach treasures you picked up while you were on vacation.
What? You didn't find any treasures or you didn't get to go see the ocean, that's okay, we have some treasures for you at Crafty Shells Website at http://www.craftyshells.com.
You will find step-by-step instructions below the large polaroid picture.

Bowl of Shells

DIY - Bowl of Shells

Complete step-by-step instructions.

Materials
30) Ringtop Cowrie Seashells
30) Umbonium Seashells
Several large seashells, sand dollars or starfish
Several medium size seashells
Several smaller size seashells
1) 3" piece of driftwood
1) piece of plastic greenery
1) clear vase or bowl
glue

First, glue the umbonium shells around the bottom of the vase. Make sure to face them all the same direction. Also, make sure not to glue them so low that your vase will not stand level. Let them dry.

Next, glue the ringtop cowries to the top lip of the vase as shown in the picture. Let them dry.

Now, you are ready to add your beach treasures to the bowl. You can arrange these to suit your taste.
I like to put in the greenery and the larger shells first, then put in the medium shells, then the smaller ones.

Be sure to come back and vote on the project.

My Favorite Beach

Mustang Island

My favorite beach spot in South Texas is Mustang Island. It is just north of Padre Island and if you go to Mustang Island State Park it is as if you were in Heaven. There are two sets of jetties, and sitting in between it is like a lagoon. It is a place where the animals seem to interact with people. The Blue Herring in the picture was only about three feet away from me when I took many pictures of him. We also saw Brown Pelicans, Seagulls, Sand Pipers, crabs, and the dolphins came out just before dusk to feed and give us a show, it was an amazing day.
As for beach combing, I found some olive seashells, sand dollars, coquinas, baby;s ears, quite a few scallops, barnacles, and some good driftwood.
This is the perfect family beach. It is blocked so that no cars can drive between the jetties, but you can park on the beach close to the posts that block the traffic, so it is not far from your car. You can keep a close eye on your children playing in the shallow surf, while you are beach combing, or fishing of the jetty. I even saw some people surfing, just outside the jetties.
It does cost $4.00 per person, but I think it is money well spent. You won't be disappointed.
