Craigslist Top Search Term Last Week

For the first time in three years,
searches for 'craigslist' surpassed 'myspace,'
highlighting the increasing popularity of online classifieds
during the economic downturn.U.S. searches
on the term "craigslist" have increased 105 percent
for the week ending March 14, 2009,
compared with the same week last year.

This is the first time that the query has been the top search term
in the United States, having surpassed the term "myspace,"
which had been the top term since March 11, 2006.
Of the combined variations of the terms "craigslist" and "myspace"
among the top 100 search terms for last week,
MySpace terms received .95 percent of all U.S. searches
and Craigslist terms received .82 percent.

Want a Great Bargain? Of Course You Do!

Like most of us, we all love a bargain.
We just can't pass it up.
And really, why should we with the economy as it is at present.
Consider this, why spend for new when you can pick up an almost new item for less than 50% to 90% of what it cost someone else?
What a way to get something and still maintain your household budget.

Here is a real life example of what I mean. I have a very close friend that is very well off. You know the type. Big house on the lake, boat tied up to his personal dock, BMW in the garage, goes on great vacations several times a year. I could go on. But I believe you have the picture?
But he buys certain items on "Craigslist" that are just amazing bargains. One of his most recent one was a four piece health equipment gym set. If you had to go out and purchase all the pieces, I'm guessing over $5000.00 plus. Get this HE PAID $400.00!!! Wow!

The individual that owned them was over it, hadn't used them and just wanted them out of the house!
There are people like this who continually do the same thing with their "stuff" they no longer want. Probably bought it with great intentions but never followed through.

This is what is possible if you only knew about it first.

Here is another confirmed fact. More and more people are selling off their "Wants" to take care of their "Needs".

Case in point is the need to fill up a tankful of gas to get to work, go grocery shopping, or get to the doctor for an illness in the family. To illustrate there has been this run on people taking their "stuff" to Pawn Shops. So many people have taking in certain items that pawn shop managers are turning individuals away because they have so many of the same items in inventory.

So where do they turn, to the biggest online free classified site, Craigslist.

Incredible Response

I needed to sell a set of cabinets I salvaged from a home. I even had the "kitchen sink" in the counter top.
Like any other Craigslist Sellers, always on the lookout to "Flip" aka sell an item to make some added money for the household budget.

Anyway, I had to spend some time late one night when the household was quiet listing the sizes of both the wall cabinets as well as the base cabinets. Cabinets can be arranged in multiple configurations. Uploaded the pictures I had taken a couple of days ago.
Note: ALWAYS include pictures! It will save YOU aggravation on people wasting your time with emails to answer, phone calls that go no where, and visits to come see your item,(s) only to say, "thats not what I thought it was...."
Get a cheap digital camera, it's worth it!

Anyway, after looking my listing to see if it was ready to list, I hit the submit button.

Well, all #@%$ broke loose! My computer went nuts! Emails after emails coming in.
Just amazing, and mind you this was after 11:30 at night.
BTW, I don't do business at this time of night.
So here I am answering emails while my wife was asking, "When are YOU coming to bed?"
She is not yet a Craigslist member, but maybe soon!

Well, I'm just amazed with the response and as each email piled up,
I've got to find out how do individuals know when a special type of listing is listed.
I know people just don't hang around their computer waiting and refreshing the local For sale site, especially that late at night.

My curiosity just got the best of me and I had to know!
So in my reply email I ask, "How did you find my listing so quick?"

Some replied they use special software that notifies them of current listed items.
...but did not divulge the name.
Kinda like a fisherman not telling you where he caught all his fish. Normal reply, pointing his finger, ."...just over there."
Right, just over specifically where?, "....just over there."
