Never underestimate the value of a crate for your dog!

If  you have a show dog, the true value of a crate is never as important as it is at a dogshow! It would be well nigh impossible really to go to  a dogshow without a crate. The crate is the showdog's "safe spot" at the show, a place for him to est and a place for him to be stress free and relaxed, a place for him to  eat and drink his water and generally hang out. When others are being groomed, he can wait patiently in his crate. I just cant imagine how difficult it would be to keep the dog  leashed for the whole time during the grooming and  waiting to go in the ring and  so on.   It doesnt matter if you keep the dog crated in the vehicle or crated in the grooming area it is still absolutely vital that he be crated at a dogshow.Crates can be valuable for training puppies to potty in the right spot, (NOT on the carpet), keeping sick dogs quiet while they heal, keeping visitors happy (no doggy goober on their Sunday best clothes), keeping puppies out of trouble while you're away....just to mention a FEW of the great things that crates can do for your sanity. There are THIRTEEN puppies in the crate that is pictured and THEY are being crated so their doggy mamma, and their human mamma, can get a few minutes of peace and quiet while their "room" is being cleaned!

Besides just helping you save your sanity, crates are an invaluable housebreaking tool. A puppy that is brought up in a clean environment from the beginning, with his dam, in a whelping box or seperate whelping area, has been taught by his dam to keep his "bed area" clean. This continues on through later life and when he is crated, this crate becomes his "den". This is not a place he will be willing to dirty by going potty, unless he absolutely has to. This is why the crate is NOT a "cage" but rather a den, for the dog.  When he is in his sleeping area, he will not potty there. If he can, he will wait. When you let him out, it is your responisbility to take him outside to do his business. done the right way, potty training in this manner is effective. Check out the training book for further helpful information and exactly how to go about it.

Crates have saved my sanity more than once!

What might happen if all the puppies in the picture just had the free run of the house??? And you CAN'T just leave them to run in the outdoors..not when its too hot...or too cold....or too rainy..The CRATE or the X-PEN is the solution!
I have had several instances of dogs who needed to be crated while healing...having them already accustomed to being crated is a great idea.
Traveling with dogs is a breeze when they are crate trained. You can leave the van outside on a hot day with all the windows open, (even the doors if necessary) and the dogs can be safe. Padlock the crates for extra security. Crates can be carried into motel rooms, and you can safely leave your dogs while dining out.
Company comes and the house is full of guests? Put the dogs in a crate...they will be happy and can watch the festivities without snarfing down turkey bones from under the table!
Small toys and children playing? Put the puppy in a crate till the dangerous items are picked up and put away!
I'm sure you can think of MANY other instances when crate training your dog will be valuable to you! It is not a "CAGE" it is a protection and a SAFETY measure.

It just makes sense that a dog should have a safe and secure den of his own. Nice article. :)

We have two dogs, a Border Collie, and a Shih tzu, they sleep in a crate, and stay in their crate when we're not home. Keeps them, and our furniture safe, LOL.
