Crayola Crayons Trivia and More

I used to love coloring when I was a kid, and now that I'm a parent, I get to enjoy those wonderful crayons all over again.

Crayola Crayon Trivia

History and trivia about America's favorite crayons

How Crayons Are Made

I love watching this video. It shows how crayons are made and shows them coming off the assembly line. It's a lot of fun and makes me want to visit the real factory!

Burnt sienna, olive green, thistle - the nostalgic favorites are all here, along with new options like "tickle me pink" and "laser lemon." Three boxes of crayons are ready to open up and dump willy-nilly on the pages of a coloring book.

The Crayon Box That Talked

A wonderful book about diversity

This book began as a simple poem celebrating harmony through diversity. Then the Ad Council liked it so much it became the theme for the folks at the 1997 National Anti-Discrimination Campaign for Children. It was then picked up and published as a children's book by Random House. The message of the story is quite simple and well-presented for children - when we work together, the results are more interesting and colorful.

Harold and the Purple Crayon

From Amazon: "One night, after thinking it over for some time, Harold decided to go for a walk in the moonlight." So begins this gentle story that shows just how far your imagination can take you. Armed only with an oversized purple crayon, young Harold draws himself a landscape full of beauty and excitement. But this is no hare-brained, impulsive flight of fantasy. Cherubic, round-headed Harold conducts his adventure with the utmost prudence, letting his imagination run free, but keeping his wits about him all the while. He takes the necessary purple-crayon precautions: drawing landmarks to ensure he won't get lost; sketching a boat when he finds himself in deep water; and creating a purple pie picnic when he feels the first pangs of hunger.
