My Crayola Memories

I have many fond memories of Crayola Crayons. I loved coloring as a child, even into the teen years. Make that adult years, as I colored with my children and asked for the Collector's Colors Limited Edition Tin Set that was released in 1992. I still have them so I suspect I'll be coloring with grandchildren if I'm blessed to have them. As a child I obsessed over trying to keep the crayons in their box and in order. My children did not have the same obsession, and we had a tin filled with crayon pieces, eventually they'd get to small to use. I saw a video of a product, that my girls & I would have loved. A way to recycle crayons and make new cool multi-color crayons.

Recyle Your Crayons

This is so cool. you put your scrap crayons in. I melts the crayons and turns them into a multi-color crayon. I remember liking multi-color pencils when I was young. I sure most kids who like to color will like these too, especially since the made it themselves. And if they're really into color they'll have fun trying different color combinations. Just writing about the makes me want a tin of broken crayons and a Crayola Crayon Maker to play with. How about you?

Crayola History

Over 100 Years Old and Counting

Crayola Crayons were introduced in 1903 by cousins Binney & Smith. They had been in the business of making industrial pigments prior to inventing the Crayola. Mr. Binney's wife Alice came up with the name. It was derived from two French word craie meaning chalk and ola (from oleaginous) meaning oily. The first eight colors, black, brown, blue, red, purple, orange, yellow, and green sold for 5 cents.

Just last week one of my 4 year old granddaughter's crayons broke when we were coloring together and she got up to run and throw it in the trash - I just couldn't let her throw it away. Too many memories of shaving them, melting them and painting with them, melting and molding them ... I think I may buy her a crayon making machine!!

I'm sure she'll love it. Also show her the cool things in the first video.
