Creamed Chipped Beef is quick and easy to make

When I was growing up, I would spend a fair amount of time at my grandmother's house. I loved the creamed chipped beef she would make for us to have over top of our toast. It usually ended with me eating way more than I should have, but it was so good that I couldn't help myself!

She always made a big production over how she slaved over a hot stove just to make me my creamed dried beef. It wasn't until I pulled her recipe out to make it for my family that I realized just how easy and inexpensive it was. I suppose she has had the last laugh about that.

Creamed chipped beef can be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner and it is the perfect comfort food on a cold winter's day!

What Is Creamed Chipped Beef?

Creamed dried beef is slivers of meat in a creamy sauce that is usually served on toast. In military slang it is commonly referred to as "Shit On a Shingle" (SOS).

Chipped beef is a dried, smoked, and salted meat product, generally sold wadded up in jars or flat in plastic packets.

SOS on Biscuits

I'm not fussy when it comes to what I'll put my creamed chipped beef on, although I have to admit I'm kinda partial to having it on top of biscuits.
