Shabby Chic Bathroom Decorating

To create a shabby chic look in your bath, begin with the walls. Paint your shabby chic bathroom walls in muted greens, pinks, or creamy whites. Use flat or matte wall paint to create a shabby chic look. Or if you prefer, you can cover your Shabby Chic bathroom walls in a floral wallpaper. Try pink roses or muted green, pink, or pale yellow floral patterns.

If you're not ready to completely replace your sink, toilet, tub, and fixtures, a quick way to change the look of your bathroom is to repaint your sink vanity.

Begin by sanding your Vanity. It's best to start with an unfinished vanity. If your sink cabinet is already painted or finished, you may need to strip off the finish. Otherwise, consult your local home improvement store for the best way to prepare your vanity for painting.

After your sink cabinet has been sanded or otherwise properly prepped for painting, you will want to start with a good primer. Apply the primer with a roller or brush or use spray primer. Let the primer dry completely before continuing to the next step.

Next, paint the vanity with a light or dark wood color. This is not the final color of the vanity. This is the color that will show through on the distressed parts of the vanity.

After this color has dried, paint the vanity a final coat with white, antique white, or a pale blue, green, yellow or pink.

Once the final coat is dry, distress the vanity by lightly sanding edges and corners to simulate years of use. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser also works well for removing areas of paint to simulate wear. Continue distressing the vanity until you achieve the look you want.
