The Sims 3 Guide: Create A Sim
Ranked #298 in Games, #7,378 overall
Using Create-A-Sim in The Sims 3 is Very Different from The Sims 2!
At first glance, using Create-A-Sim in The Sims 3 will seem easy enough, and similar to using Create-A-Sim in The Sims 2. However, didn't Electronic Arts make a big fuss about how wonderful all the new changes were in The Sims 3?
Didn't we hear about the flexibility to create unique sims who didn't look anything like one another? Wasn't there some serious bragging going on about this?
Create-A-Sim is very different in The Sims 3, mostly because of the increased number of options that you have for creating your character. More than that, you will notice that the modifiers work differently, and are either more or less flexible depending on how heavily you relied on Body Shop (in The Sims 2).
You will like the flexibility, once you've learned to use it. In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to use Create a Sim.
This lens is part of my Sims 3 Strategy Guide. If you haven't already read my review of The Sims 3 or if you don't own the game, that is a great place to start!

What's a Sim and Why Do You Need One?
A little bit about The Sims legacy

Over there to the right is a Sim that I created. This Sim represents me. She looks like me and she dresses similarly to the way that I dress. If I'd taken more time to tweak her, she might have looked even more like me (you can see a close up of her face in my profile picture). If I moved her into Sunset Valley and gave her a house (and then played her), it would be "me" living a life that I could design, from the ground up. If I really wanted to, I could even destroy that life.
The Sims is a PC gaming franchise that was created by Will Wright ten years ago. In the beginning, the game was designed to help budding architects, but it took off as a role playing sensation with nothing to compare. The game was so popular that The Sims 2 was released, a 3D version of the original game, with more dimension to the role play as well.
The Sims 2 took off like very few other games in the history of video gaming. Challenges and communities developed, stories were told about the lives of sims, and players enjoyed making or breaking Sims' careers and lives. The Sims 2 was a real sensation!
In June of 2009, The Sims 3 was released. Now Sims could be customized much, much more, and each individual Sim could be made to look entirely unique, from body shape to hair and eye color to facial shape. The possibilities are endless!
Oh yes, you need a Sim, whether it's a Sim Self (like the one over there to the right) or a little character in a story that is entirely of your own making. So, to get a sim, you need to:

FREE Sims 3 Downloads
Get More out of Create a Sim!
The following downloads should all be free. Sometimes things change and sites will go to a "donation" service or begin to ask for money for their downloads. I might not always catch them. If you find a site that has gone pay, please take a moment to send me a message and let me know. Sims 3 downloads must be free in order to comply with the EA terms of service. These free downloads are legal. Paid downloads are a copyright violation! To those of you copyright gurus, this might sound rather odd. However, please bear in mind that when someone asks you to pay for content created using the Sims (2 or 3) platform, they are using the program created by someone else. The solution is that these may only be offered for free.
If you can support any of these sites financially and there is a donation option (which does not require you to donate to get something in return), you can help to prevent copyright theft by donating to the sites directly instead of paying for the downloads. These creators work hard!
All of these downloads are mostly clothing and hair, rather than complete sims.
- Liana Sims3
- This is a free downloads Sims3 site where you can download fashion clothes, patterns, houses, makeup and jewelry for your sims 3 game.
- Parsimonious
- Parsimonious has some of the best downloads for The Sims. Great site, but you have to dig through it to find what you really want.
- XM Sims
- Excellent downloads in all categories. Comparable to Peggy Sims but without the caveat of it being a pay site.
- Mod The Sims
- Probably THE most comprehensive site for Sims information and downloads on the Internet, and all free! Definitely worth checking out. Patterns, sims, objects, skins, makeup, etc.
- AweSims
- All free sims downloads.
For Best Results, Use a Good Graphics Card in The Sims 3!
My photos aren't up to snuff, but yours could be!
Now I am running on a Mac. The Mac runs The Sims 3 (without me having to buy any other discs!) beautifully. I have an nVidia graphics card and I couldn't be happier. Hopefully I will have time soon to get into the game and get some new pictures to show off the difference. I do want to upgrade the amount of RAM that I have in the computer before I try to install the expansion packs though!
EVGA GeForce GT 220 1024 MB GDDR3 DVI/HDMI/VGA PCI Express Graphics Card, 01G-P3-1226-LR
Amazon Price: (as of 05/31/2012)![]()
List Price: $75.99
If you want to get the best performance out of your game, the best graphics card is required. This is only an example: I advise ensuring that you have the right card to fit your computer before you order. You want sharp graphics and a fast speed on your graphics card for best results!
Loading Create a Sim in The Sims 3
Getting Started with Making Your Sim
If you don't know how to enter Create-A-Sim, please see my Newbies Guide to The Sims 3. That guide will show you how to get to Create-A-Sim so that you can get started.
When you first load Create-A-Sim, you will notice that there is a pre-created sim standing in front of a mirror. This sim is, essentially, your canvas -- the blank slate with which you may begin. If you prefer, you can choose a different sim by either clicking on the "randomize button" (the upper circled button) or on the "select sim" button (the lower circled button).
This first screen that you see (to the left) is where you will enter the essential details for your sim. Choose the gender of your sim (I'm making a female sim -- the symbol on the left is the female symbol, the symbol on the right is the male symbol) and choose an age for you sim. Ages in Create-A-Sim range from toddler to elder (toddler, child, teen, young adult, adult and elder). All households must include at minimum a young adult in order to be saved, so take that into consideration!
Editing the Basics of Your Sim in The Sims 3
The Sims 3 gives you incredible flexibility to edit the basics!
The skin color and tone, and body modifiers may also be changed (on a sliding scale). The image above shows the drop-down that allows you to choose the color of the skin (easy enough to miss if you aren't looking for it).
I recommend that new simmers spend some time playing with these basic modifiers. You can choose from six different skin tones (including three different flesh tones, blue, green and red). Additionally, you can change the tone of the skin color from very light to very dark (but you cannot achieve true black using these modifiers).
Next, you can chose your sim's body type. No longer are you restricted to simply fit (thin) or fat. Instead, you can make your sim a unique body type from (very) skinny to (very) fat. Most people range somewhere between these two extremes, just to give you a sense of your flexibility.
I recommend going slowly with this, moving in small increments and tweaking, unless you aren't particular about your sim. The combinations between body weight and muscle mass are virtually endless.
If you think that it's great the flexibility that you have with your sim's body shape, you're going to love what comes next!

My Sim Before Editing
Your Sim's Hair
You can do a LOT with your coiffe in The Sims 3!
The image above is zoomed in on our sim's face. As you can see, I have chosen the "hair" button (the second from the top on the left). This will allow me to choose a hair style for my sim from a list of images, with or without accessories.
The Sims 3 has a limited number of hair styles with the base game. World Adventures does add more styles, but the difference isn't significant. If you want more, you are going to need to be willing to shell out some cash at The Sims 3 Store.
I'm not going to change the hair style right away. Instead, I'm going to work with the color.
Below the styles, you will see several options for hair colors, including two shades of blonde, two shades of Auburn (auburn and strawberry blonde), red, brown, black and gray. You can choose one of these colors for your sim, and any one of them will look great!

I am going to try to create my own (unusual color) hair in The Sims 3 in order to illustrate just how flexible Create a Sim is in this game.
The image size is about to shrink considerably so that I can fit them into the screen. Please click on the thumbnail in order to see a full-sized version of the image for detail.
The first thing that I'm going to do is to click the paint brush in the lower right of the menu. I have circled it in red in the image above.
The Sims 3 Color Palette
When you click on the paintbrush button, you will see an image that looks like this. You may click on it to see a larger image that will make it easier to see the pictures.
The first thing that you will notice is that you have six hues of seven colors shown on the main tab. It's eye catching, and in this case it can be a tiny bit distracting. If you're like I was in the beginning, you are probably wondering where the purple hair that our sim started with came from. I will get to that in just a moment.
For now I want you to note the upper part of the panel shown at right. You see a large square block that has your sim's hair color displayed within it, and then to the right of that, four circles of varying sizes. Those circles, in order, are roots, highlights, base and tips.
When you click on one of these circles, you will be able to adjust the color for that particular "layer" of the hair. In the picture, "base" is selected and you can see that each layer is varying shades of brown. I'm going to change that.
Editing Your Sim's Hair Color Using the Pre-Set Colors
This is where the real magic happens: The Sims 3 allows you to be very specific in how you change the color of your sim's hair. I'm going to try to walk you through this step by step. The first few times I did this, it seemed cumbersome and complicated. I would like to spare you that.
The first thing that I'm going to do here is to show you the pre-set colors palette. I would like to do this in several steps so that you can see the way that the changes take effect. If you click on the image to the right, you will see both color palette and sim.
In my case, I've chosen to leave the base color alone: there was a reason that I chose this color for my sim's hair. Instead I'm going to select the top circle: roots. (You should be able to see, in the enlarged image, that there is a white circle around the "roots" selection.)
I have chosen to make my sim's roots a dark red because I like that effect (and have used it before on Sims).
A note on roots, however: Roots should be a very similar shade to that of your base color. In this case, I chose a dark red with a dark brown. The overall affect is a good blend. The root color shouldn't match the base color for best effect, however.
Skipping over the base color (the big brown circle), I'm moving down to the highlight color. Notice that even in the EA created option that this is a lighter color than the rest of the hair. The highlights give more definition and depth to your sim's hair color. Think about if you decide to dye your hair: Do you want a flat color or something with some depth?
It's the same way for your sim: she will look more natural if there is some definition to her hair color.
I have chosen a reddish-brown color on light side. You can see the white circle around the color on the right side (even in the thumbnail). Click on the thumbnail to see the larger image so that you can see how it looks on the sim!
The last thing that needs to be edited for the hair of your sim is the tips. This is the final, tiny circle on your palette. You should see it circled in white on the thumbnail, but it is clearer to see on the larger image (just click to view it!).
In my opinion, you have a lot of flexibility in this area. If you imagine that your sim dyes her hair, the color could be lighter than the rest of her hair. It might be darker because it doesn't get any sunlight on it. This is one very variable part of designing your sim.
I've chosen a red color similar to the color on my sim's roots. You can see the effect on the Sim by clicking on the thumbnail image. I will give you a more complete view below.

The Total Effect: Front and Back
A Variation (only in The Sims 3)
The Sims 3 offers several ways to "decorate" your sim!
You may not need this pointed out to you: there are two tabs on your palette. The first allows you to choose colors based on a pre-determined palette created by EA. The other allows you to use the sliders that should be familiar to simmers. You can see an example image to the right.
This color wheel allows you to be very specific in how you choose the colors for your Sim's hair.
This is also how you get the funky hair colors, because the color wheel allows you to choose any color of the rainbow. If you want your sim to have bright green hair, you can do it using this tab.
This part is relatively easy, and you shouldn't require much of a walk through. Use the sliders to adjust the shade of the hair you chose on the previous tab, or use the color wheel to choose a completely different color. In my example to the right, my sim has bright red roots (and eyebrows!), pink highlights and blue tips. You can do anything that you want!
As always, click on the image to see the sim!
Eyebrows and Eyelashes
Also VERY adjustable in The Sims 3 -- Without Custom Content!
While you have the hair folder open, you should see that there are two tabs for a female sim (or three if it is a male sim): The first is for the hair and the second is for eyebrows and eyelashes. If you are creating a male sim, the third is for facial hair (I will get to that in a moment).
You have a lot of options here -- far more options with The Sims 3 than with The Sims 2.
I recommend first skipping over the different eyebrow style options and choosing the color of the eyebrows. In most cases, you will find that the root color is the automatically selected option, but you can change eyebrow color just as flexibly as you can the hair color: by clicking on the paintbrush button. It works the same except for the fact that eyebrows are only one color.
You will also see that you have several options for eyebrow styles. Generally speaking, I come back to this option after I have constructed the face for my sim, so that the eyebrows go with the face instead of me building the face around the eyebrows. I have also set my sim's hair to be back away from he face so that I can see what I am doing in the steps below. This is especially important when editing ears and earrings.
The eyebrow options are adjustable later on.
Eyelash length can be adjusted using the slider on the bottom. You can go from very short to very long, as you please.
Click on the thumbnail to see the entire screenshot, including the current sim.
Facial Hair in the Sims 3
Only available for male sims
If your sim is a male, you will have three tabs instead of two. The third tab will be for facial hair.
Facial hair works the same way that eyebrows do. You can choose to either match the root color of your sim's hair, or to adjust the color of the beard manually using the colors offered, or by clicking on the paintbrush button in order to use the color wheel or the pre-sets. You can also choose the shape of your sim's facial hair, or to have no facial hair at all.
As with the eyebrows, I recommend matching the root color provided that it is a natural color. If your sim has, for example, bright pink roots, you might want to choose one of the offered hair colors for the facial hair and eyebrows.
Editing Your Sim's Face in The Sims 3
You have a ton of options with The Sims 3!
I am not going to go through every individual type of modifier in The Sims 3 in this tutorial. If I were to do so, it would take forever for me to demonstrate sim creation to you, and I don't think that you need me to go that far for you to "get" it.
I will be taking you through adjusting the basic facial structure of your sim, as well as discussing details and makeup.
The image to the right shows the panel that you will see when you click on the "looks" button. This is the third button down on the line, right after "hair."
You are presented with a series of faces for you to choose from. You can choose to change the facial shape of your sim or to leave it the way that it is. I'm going to be changing the shape of my Sim's face.
You can see the choice that I made "in action" by clicking on the thumbnail to see the sim.
Choose any face shape that you like. The modifiers allow you to make a lot of changes to virtually everything, as you are about to see.

When I first started this guide, I intended for it to get a lot bigger than it has. There are several reasons I wasn't able to go further, not the least of which is that I'm just not as experienced as many others. There are many much better creators and simmers out there who have superior knowledge to that which I possess. I'll be directing you toward those sites that I feel are a good start for you to get more information about the game and to help you with the more complex elements of creation that I am not skilled enough to help you to get through (such as serious building and using Create a Style).

Modifying Your Sim's Face in The Sims 3
The Sims 3 allows very unique sims!
No two sims need be alike in The Sims 3, and this is where it really begins to come together for those simmers who enjoy making major changes to the structure of their sims.
You should be able to see in the thumbnail where the white circle is around the selection. If you cannot, please enlarge the image by clicking on it so that you can better see. It is the "button" to the right, in order to get to the modifiers.
Here you can see that you have several different areas of the face that you can modify. Right now "global" is selected. You can also modify the ears, the cheeks, the jaw and the chin.
I am not going to show you everything that these modifiers do because again, that would take several lenses in order for me to do so. I recommend that you play with the sliders and view your sim both head-on and in profile to see what is changing with each tweak that you make.
If you have any questions, please use the guestbook to ask them.
Adding the Topical Details
You don't need custom content any more!
While your choices for topical details are few in The Sims 3, you have more options than you did in The Sims 2 (without custom content).
This option is the tab second from the bottom. Here you can add freckles or beauty marks.
As with the other options, I advise looking at these personally. I've viewed pictures of the freckles and beauty marks and you cannot do them justice in an image: you need to see them in your game and the way that they look on your sim. Try all four of them: they can be used in any of the various available combinations or alone.
Putting on Her Face
Adding makeup to your sim
Makeup in The Sims 3 is as flexible as the hair is!
You have several options for makeup, all of which allow you to choose your own colors: eyeshadow, eyeliner, blush, lipstick and costume makeup.
The eyeshadow options are shown in the image to the right. You can choose from one of the five colors that are provided for you, or, using the paintbrush button, you can choose a color of your own. You will have an entirely new palette to work with (shown below) so that you can adjust the color of your sim's makeup as you please. You also still have the color wheel available to you.
One of the two blush options and one of the three lipstick options involve three colors combined for a complete look: you can choose all three colors to make up your sim!
Experience tells me that it is easier in the Sims 3 create a sim to stick with the colors that they provide for you, because they are reasonably natural and you can wind up tearing your hair out working on creating your own looks if you aren't particularly patient (and I'm not!). The choice is yours, of course. If you are more patient or creative than I, give it a go!

The Well-Dressed Sim
Clothing your Sim in The Sims 3
As you can see above, my sim changed completely from the sim that I started with. I don't know whether or not she's "pretty" but she is certainly very "unique!" You can be quite assured that there is no other sim floating around who is quite like her, and that is the essence of using create-a-sim with all of your new and improved options: You can make a sim who is as unique as you are!
The next step is to change your sim's clothes.
You will notice almost immediately (particularly if you have only the base game -- I have purchased the Worlds of Adventure expansion pack at this point) that there aren't very many clothing choices (particularly for male sims). Each style will be shown on its own row, with different color variations for that style shown in the row (you may need to scroll to see all of the options).
This may take a few tries to get used to because it is a new way of displaying the clothing styles with The Sims 3.
Your sim has five different outfits that will need to be put together: Everyday, Formal, Pajamas, Activewear and Swimwear. Each of these outfits has four separate elements or you can choose the "outfit" option instead of separate tops and bottoms.
I will walk you through putting together an everyday outfit for our sim, because things in The Sims 3 can get pretty exciting!
Dressing Things Up
Making your Sim look her best!
I'm going to walk you through creating an everyday outfit for your sim. The other outfit options I will leave up to you. They work exactly the same as the everyday outfit.
I am not personally a fan of the complete outfits in The Sims 3, so I'm going to skip over them. If you find one that you like, feel free to use it instead of putting an outfit together from scratch.
The first part of the outfit is the top. You will find quite a number of options for your sim (fewer if your sim is a male). The tops come in various lengths, layers, styles and colors and as you'll find out later, are customizable.
I have chosen a long shirt layered with a jacket over the top. I like the red and will probably not change it. I think this is a good style for my sim.
The next item that we can change is the bottoms. The jeans aren't bad, but I want to try something just a little bit different for my sim (again, to make her wholly unique). I like the pants that are shown in the picture. I'm not sure about the black (I might like them to match the gray shirt) but I can work with that later on. This color is the closest to what I want, so that's what I've chosen.
I'm not especially happy with the bottom offerings in The Sims 2. The variety is oddly very slim and I suspect that the effort is to get us shopping at the Sims 3 store (on the EA site). If you've seen my other lenses, you might get an idea of the reasons why I'm not fond of the super short skirts and shorts that are offered in The Sims 3. I also don't like the look of the super-tight tapered jeans, which leaves me with some very serious limitations.
There are more options available with the Worlds of Adventure expansion pack and available at The Sims 3 store.
This one is a little bit difficult to see, so please be sure to click on the image in order to enlarge it.
If we skip over the complete outfits (which we don't need if we've chosen a top and bottom), the next item that we get to choose is the shoes. This is new in The Sims 3 -- previously bottoms or outfits came with shoes already attached. The Sims 3 makes things really, truly customizable.
There are a lot of choices for shoes (more for women than for men). I don't like the Converse-style shoes that my sim is currently wearing, so I am changing them to a pair of wedge heels that look nice with the pants.
In this case, the sim is wearing socks (they are under accessories). If I wanted to put her in sandals, I would first have to remove the socks. We're about to move on to accessories.
Things really get interesting when you begin to add accessories in The Sims 3. First of all, you can add more than one different kind of accessory, and remove them at will (though once you're in the game you'll have to use a wardrobe to do it).
You can choose glasses, earrings, bracelets/watches, gloves, rings and socks. Use whatever combination you wish.
I decided to change to a pair of silver hoop earrings and to add a bracelet. I left the socks in place since they are invisible under the shoes.
At this point, my sim's appearance is finished. Now all I have to do is choose traits for my sim in order to determine her personality, give her a name, save and upload her. Then I'll be done.
Before I go on to that point, I want to show you one last thing.
Okay Simmers, let's Hear it!
Are Sims Prettier in The Sims 2 or The Sims 3?

Definitely The Sims 2! They got pudgy and gelatinous in The Sims 3!
MA says:
I think that they all look the same in Sims 3. In Sims 2 the Sims looked way better and more realistic.
Becky says:
I don't mind Sims 3 being pudgier at all, it also adds realism. I just think all the girls look *exactly* the same! Also, most of the sims in TS3 have bobble heads (round faces are lovely, just not when everyone looks related to each other - round face, pouty mouth, etc) - doesn't help that the few haircuts are Texas style, poofy on top and emphasizing the forehead.
Tolovaj says:
I am old fashioned, i know, I know...
TNT says:
Absolutely Sims 2. Although their faces mostly did look pretty similar...
Oh goodness, The Sims 3! Are you kidding me? You can do so much more with them!
KandH says:
Sims 3
djeby says:
Frankly i like sims 3 better. It is more complex and more realistic.
Skyler<3 says:
Sims 2 is better if you didnt download hairstyles from sims3.com. but if you did, sims 3 is better!
Miles_of_Smiles11 says:
I do like the Sims in sims 2. But I like the options we have in Sims 3. With the right mods, the Sims do look realistically pretty and I am certainly not new to the Simmer's world.
Create a Style (New in The Sims 3!)
What makes The Sims 3 REALLY great!
If you look on your panel when creating your sim's outfit, you will see at the bottom right that there is a small button with a palette image on it. If you click this button you will enter Create a Style.
This is the stuff that Sims creator's dreams are made of. You can change anything about your sim's clothing to suit your personal taste. I could give my sim here leather pants, or make them cowhide (with the fur and all). Instead, as planned, I tried to change them to gray. I hated it, and switched back to black.
I'm not going to go into detail about Create a Style here, because there isn't enough room (as though this lens isn't long enough). Look for a future lens on the subject of using Create a Style!
Finishing Touches
Giving your sim a personality
In The Sims 2, personality was fairly simple: You were able to choose various 'degrees' of different personality traits and then sign an 'aspiration' which influenced the kinds of things that your sim wanted and feared.
The Sims 3 is entirely different, the first game in The Sims franchise to have a system as flexible as this. Your sim will not only appear unique, but she will also have a very unique personality based on the traits that you give her.
Above you will see the trait panel next to the sim. I don't have enough space in this lens to discuss all of the available traits with you. Look for a future lens that outlines the traits.
You can assign five. If you started with a sim from the bin (like I did), your sim will already have a set of personality traits loaded. Click on the ... button to change your sim's traits. Double-click to remove them from the upper list and double click on the lower list to move them to your sim.
Once you have chosen traits, several options for lifetime wishes will appear based on your chosen traits. You may choose one of these lifetime wishes for your sim to achieve. They work similarly to Lifetime Wants in The Sims 2, but you can only have one per lifetime.
I will explain more about lifetime wishes in a separate thread as well. I apologize that I can't fit all of this into one lens!
The Final Touches
Little details that aren't important, but add dimension
There are some final details that you can add to your sim. These don't affect your sim's appearance or personality in any tangible way, but are fun, and do influence the types of things that your sim may talk about when "getting to know" another sim.
Access these details by going to the heart tab on the personality panel.
The first row will show you three items: favorite food, favorite music and favorite color. Clicking on one of these will allow you to change them.
I haven't noticed how favorite food or favorite color influence anything, but favorite music does influence the music that a sim will choose to listen to.
Below the "favorites" you can change your sim's voice. This is new with The Sims 3 and I like it because it allows me to pick my sim out of a crowd by listening.
For the voice, you edit it two ways. First you choose the voice quality. Just choose which of the three circles sound best to you. Then you choose the voice's pitch. Your sim can have a deep voice or a high pitched voice: it's your preference in Create-A-Sim.
How did I do with the Create-A-Sim Guide?

I appreciate your feedback -- it helps me to improve!
If you've been following along through this entire tutorial, thank you! Let me know how I did.
Purchase The Sims 3
I highly recommend this game!

If you don't already have a copy of The Sims 3, and are reading this lens in the hopes of getting an idea of what the game is all about, or how it stacks up against The Sims 2, then you may want to read my Review of The Sims 3.
I love this game. I think that it adds a lot of dimension to the previous games in the series, but more than that, it is a new game entirely. Whether you are already familiar with The Sims or not, you have just as much of a chance of enjoying this game as someone who has played every game from the very beginning.
The Sims is getting ready to celebrate its ten-year anniversary, so why don't you jump on the bandwagon and get involved, too?
If you don't already own a copy of The Sims 3, what are you waiting for?
Go On and Expand the Sims 3!
You know you want to!
The Sims 3 is a Big Investment
Maybe buy it used?
This is a relatively expensive game, especially for those of us who get caught up in the expansion packs and stuff packs and add content to the game through The Sims 3 Store. I know how you feel -- honest, I do. I suggest that you try Ebay if you'd like to play The Sims 3 but are intimidated by the cost.

- very helpful, but I do have a question. After you create a sim (the sims 3) is there any way you can "redo" it, as in, I created a sim, and she was a child, then, she aged up to a teen, and was ugly:( she was beautiful before, but now, she has a mowhawk:( if there is any way to change he appearance at this point, please tell me, or pm me on howrse.com, my username is valerie911

- @Autumn mist105 In game, select your teen then click on a mirror in the house. Select 'Change Appearance'. It will then load a create-a-sim screen where you can change the sim's hairstyle and makeup. To change her clothing and shoes, click on a dresser and select 'Plan Outfit.'
Hopefully this is clear! You'll find there are not very many good female hairstyles that come with the game so you may need to download some from the Sims 3 store.

- Blue screen in CAS is almost always a graphics issue. You might also get red water. If it's not your graphics card and you have custom content, remove ALL of your custom content and add it back in one item at a time to find out whether or not that was part of the problem.
If the game is brand new and you're still having problems, I don't have the answer. Check out technical support on the official forum and see what answers they can provide you with. There's no reason the game shouldn't run on a Mac. I'm on a mini and do just fine.

- All you can do is upgrade your graphics card. This is a problem with an incomparable graphics card, I'm afraid. I play on a Mac and feel that it is *much* better on a Mac, but this isn't affordable for everybody. Mac has excellent graphics cards shipping with the computer.

- I just finished creating my whole family of sims but i forgot to add a member. I am still in the "Edit relationships" page. I only have two options, the "X" or the "CheckMark" i know the checkmark takes me to the neighborhood. But where does the "X" take me? If i choose that do i lose my whole unsaved family? or do i go back into the "Create A Sims"

- it's been a while since i played, since I was having computer problems that were preventing me from doing so (crashes in the game, etc). However, unless I am sorely mistaken, the X will take you back to the edit family screen. If it's going to scrap the family, I think that it will give you a warning.
The alternative option is to move the family into a household, then go back to CAS and make the final member of the household and add them into it. You just won't be able to edit the relationships.

- Thanks Susie! I still wouldn't say that I'm an expert with this feature of the game since I still can't replicate human faces like some people can, but then again I don't have any custom content installed that changes the textures.
I'm now playing on a Mac, so that will also be an interesting adventure.

- Each time my Sim gives birth, they are dressed in custom content that I have in my game, but the clothes are supposed to be for adults. This causes them to appear deformed or not at all. I tried deleting the offending clothes from Create a Sim, but have been unable to do so. Do you have any suggestions, without having to delete the content from my game entirely?

EverydayMiracles
Aug 3, 2010 @ 6:32 pm | delete
- I would take out everything in the whole downloads folder and add it back in piece by piece. I'm a very manual kind of person when it comes to custom content because that makes it so much easier to get rid of the stuff you don't want.
Go to your documents, Electronic Arts, The Sims 3 and then the Downloads folder. Remove *all* of it and then put items back in one by one until you've isolated the offenders. I would also let the creators know that there's a problem. They probably don't know.

- I've never heard of this glitch before. Do you have all the patches installed? I'm not running with Ambitions (yet) so I don't know what additional problems the new expansion pack causes within the game, either. An all-black sim is usually the result of a union with the Grim Reaper, before that became impossible with a new game update (too bad!). Have you asked on the Sims 3 forums?

-
-
-
EverydayMiracles
Mar 8, 2010 @ 12:59 pm | delete
- It's rated Teen and I stand by their rating in that case. Depending on the maturity level of the teen, it may be a game to avoid, or even a game that can be handled by younger children.
I would say that in general it's a lot LESS mature than its predecessor, but there are definitely some themes to watch for. If you like, I can try to find you some stories based on game themes to look at. The biggest issue that I have with the game is the sexuality in it.

- Create-a-Sim is accessed through the game interface, not through a separate program (like body shop in The Sims 2). Try what I've suggested here: http://www.squidoo.com/sims-3-newbies and then if you still are having problems with it, let me know and I will try to figure out the problem.
My game came on a single DVD, so I'm not sure about two separate CDs. I didn't even know that there was a trial/partial version of the game.
