I was impressed by some of the customization that was allowed with this website! There are impressive fan pages set up for TV shows like American Idol and Terminator that look just as great as any other website I've visited. This means you can do the same thing! Unfortunately, Geocities has closed for good. Here's what it once was:
Geocities is Yahoo's free website builder, where you can build free webpages with the "geocities.com" domain attached to it. For example, if you wanted your own domain name called billschairs.com, your geocities URL would be geocities.com/billschairs.

Squidoo is the site you are on right now. You can make your own free web page to promote your business, a charity, or just make a page for fun and earn a royalty while you're doing it. Tumblr is an easy way to get started blogging and focuses on adding media to make your posts interesting.

Yahoo 360
Yahoo 360 was Yahoo's blog and social networking platform which launched in 2005. It isn't recommend that you use this site, however, since bug reports will go unanswered as the site is being abandoned by Yahoo.

Blog.com offers free blogs and easy to use posting formats.

These websites don't exactly fall under the term "blog," so they're listed here. They might be magazine style "wikizine" sites like Zimbio, or a "wiki" style site like Wikihow and Google Knol.

Zimbio
Zimbio allows you to create your own content in article style formats called wikizines. You can even pull entries from your blog to be showcased on Zimbio, a great feature!

Wikihow
Wikihow is a mainly volunteer based community to generate how to manuals on the web. You can edit existing wikihow pages, or create a new one. These shouldn't be created to advertise yourself, however.

Google Knol
Google Knol is Google's answer to Wikipedia. Over time, the goal of of Google Knol is to provide the top resource for internet users when they search any topic online. Google Knol frowns upon spam, and nofollows every outgoing link, so don't count on a backlink!
