Create A Japanese Garden

When you decide to create a Japanese garden, there are three basic elements that you will need to familiarize yourself with. These elements should be present, because they create an atmosphere of tranquility, harmony, reverence and purity. But how each person uses these elements may vary, allowing them to bring their own unique style when creating a Japanese garden.

Create Japanese Garden: The Plant Element

Plants are an essential element in any garden and this is also true in Japanese garden design.

Plants renew one's spirit, they should be placed careful. They can be used to soften the hardscape (i.e. such as patios, retaining walls, and walkways) or add color to wake up the senses, bring joy to your life. If you are considering using trees, select ones that can be carefully pruned like some pine or Asian cypress.

Create Japanese Garden: The Water Element

Water has a soothing and calming affect that brings a peaceful element, even if it is a calm pond, a slow moving stream or waterfall.

The water element is usually incorporated into the creation of a Japanese garden by using some sort of pond. Within the pond, you can use several different thinks to highlight it i.e., a stream speckled with stones or waterfall etc.

Create Japanese Garden: The Stone Element

Stone/rocks should be chosen carefully, there are a few things to consider; the type of stone to use, size/shape and where it will be placed. Now combining different shapes and sizes is a practice thought to help create "chi energy" in your garden. Stones can also be used when creating paths or walls for your outdoor landscape.
