Create Your Renaissance Business Using Squidoo

Ranked #9,173 in Business & Work, #237,152 overall

What is a Renaissance Business?

A renaissance business combines multiple interests under an overarching theme. Richard Branson's empire, The Virgin Group, is an example of a renaissance business. Renaissance business entrepreneurs pursue work they love and trust that the dots will connect. It's easy to get distracted, though, along the way.

Emilie Wapnick has created an online community to help budding renaissance business entrepreneurs stay on track. Unlike most Web 2.0 advice, which encourages bloggers to develop ultra-niche websites, Emilie encourages her readers to embrace their most disperate talents and to build an online business around all of their interests. Emilie's Renaissance Business guide offers a step-by-step approach that takes readers through the process of identifying their passions, developing an overarching theme, building and launching a website, growing an engaged community, and selling products or services. Use Squidoo to Help Build Your Renaissance Business

Haven't Figured Out Your Passions Yet, No Problem

SquidooFor beginners, the process of setting up a website can be daunting. Squidoo is a gift in this regard. It provides all of the building blocks that you need to build a successful website (called a lens in Squidoo parlance) for free. Why pay $5 or even as much as $20 dollars a month to host a website while you're still exploring your interests, choosing a title for your renaissance business, and figuring out how to write for the web? With Squidoo, you can focus on two or three lenses at time, get comfortable with multiple aspects of web 2.0 culture, and publish your lenses on your own timeline. This is a great way to learn as you go and distinguish your current interests from previous ones you may have outgrown. You'll likely discover new interests too. If you decide to start your own website, you can back link to it from all of your Squidoo lenses, which is a great way to improve your overall standing in Google rankings. Also, the Squidoo community is incredibly supportive. The following sections include advice from veteran lens makers (called Squids in Squidoo parlance).
