Did you know that the average wedding in the United States costs close to $30,000? If you are like me, you think that is insane! A good deal of that money is spent on the reception, a big party with a ton of food and alcohol usually.

Did you know that you can cater your own wedding? And did you know that you do not have to serve alcohol? That will save you a ton of money!

Gather your family and close friends together and see what dishes they would be willing to help you make. Plan your menu around what they can help you with. Many families do this and their receptions turn out great. You can choose to serve a full breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or you can just serve hors d'oeuvres or desserts along with your wedding cake.

Your Fingerfood Reception

Your fingerfood reception for your wedding is easy to do if you get help. Fingerfoods are always a crowd pleaser. You can serve a variety of cold or hot foods. Obviously, cold foods are easier to do, but both can be done.

You can have a variety of tiny sandwiches on different types of breads. Have everything from tuna or chicken salad, ham and cheese, to peanut butter and jelly for the kids.

Serve pigs in a blanket. Use mini hot dogs or sausages and roll them up in crescent roll dough. Yum.

Cut pizzas into tiny pieces or serve mini pizza rolls.

Skewer tiny shrimp, mushrooms, pineapple, ham, chicken, beef, or whatever you like and serve those with a dipping sauce or just barbecue sauce.

Have trays of freshly cut vegetables, fruits, and cheese cubes. Crackers and cheese are also good.

Don't forget a variety of chips. Everyone enjoys chips, especially the kids.

Serve mini muffins, cupcakes, or cheesecakes in addition to the wedding cake. Fresh fruit on the dessert table like melons, strawberries, and grapes are a nice addition.
