Unique Photo Ideas & Photo Gift Ideas
When you want to create unique photo crafts, creative photo gifts, custom scrapbook photo pages, add text, borders or artistic special effects to your digital photos or photographs, make the investment and buy Photoshop. Photoshop is not as hard as it looks, it may be a little expensive, but if you're really serious about your digital photo art, give it a try.
Creative digital photo art using Photoshop does take some time to get comfortable with and the best advice I can give when creating with Photoshop: Learn the tool bar, keep trying new things and watch the tutorials. FYI...There are great Photoshop (plus loads of other) classes on Lynda.com. Check it out to learn with a marvelous tutor, at a reasonable price.
Of course, there are still those of us that want to create photo art by hand, we may not even have a digital camera. If that's the case, just make high resolution copies of your precious photo memories, get out your scissors, glazes, ephemera, Mod Podge or glue and start creating unique photo gifts or whimsical photo scrapbooks:)Remember, there are still amazing photo albums out there that you can personalize.
CAPTURING THE MOMENT
It's safe to say that close to 90% of the photos in the average photo album are of people. We love to see ourselves in pictures surrounded by our family, our pets and close friends.
Most of us line everyone up and have them pose for the shot. There's nothing wrong with that, for a framed print or a holiday card. With digital photography, it's easy to keep snapping off shots...there's bound to be a good one in the bunch, but with standard film it can get somewhat expensive to keep shooting for a prize winner.
I've found that when using images to create scrapbook pages, video montage or photo collage, a little bit of pre-planning is worth the effort and will truly improve the photo gifts and memories you create.
Before you click the shutter, ask yourself, what do you want the photo to say?
It may seem like a silly question, but it will help you capture the images that can be used for precisely the right photo art application.
Once you've planned the shots that you're looking for...I always try to remind myself to:
Hold the Camera Straight
Find a Point of Interest
Get in Close
Check Backgrounds
Elbows tight to your side.

Organizing Photos
You've got to clean the kitchen, before you start cooking!
Are you overwhelmed by boxes of photographs or digital photo files?Do you need a little motivation to organize your photo memories into photo albums, photo montage or scrapbooks? Maybe you just want to find time to burn your photos to a disk for safe keeping.
Organizing photo's is quite a job, if it's been awhile:)
If you try to keep it simple, the task of organizing photos can be a wonderful trip down memory lane. Grab your kids, or significant other and don't forget the kleenex.
So where do you begin when organizing your photo memories?
Well, it's a little like cleaning your closet. Gather enough small boxes and label them accordingly. Past, present, kids, family, pets, vacations, sports, special occasions,crafts....you get the picture.
This holds true for digital photos, as well. If you haven't been filing your photo's into individual folders on your hard drive, on a disk, or in a photo gallery format, start small. It doesn't have to be daunting task.
Start somewhere and finish. Then start somewhere else.
Set an egg timer for 15 minutes and see how much you can get accomplished.
KISS "Keep it simple sweetie."

I've been taking photos, since I was a little girl. There's just something about freezing a moment in time that feeds my spirit.
Now, with digital photography, a whole new world has opened up. You can adjust, add, mend and create amazing works of art with simple photos. I use Photoshop CS, but there are many software programs to choose from to enhance photography.
If you don't feel you're computer savvy, make copies of your photos, at your local printer and get out your Mod Podge or scrapbook pages.
As many of you may know, a few years back, I was granted the honor of creating possibly one of the worlds largest single digital image collage for the Red Wing Shoe Company, celebrating their 100 years of history.
Literally, hundreds of hours, thousands of photos, millions of bytes, billions of bits, frustration, tears and passion were the elements of life for this project spanning over 648 square feet in its majestic state.
When I agreed to do the project, it didn't dawn on me what was in store. I pushed my Mac and Photoshop CS to the limit on this 16-panel piece, with each panel pushing 2 gigabytes of information each. Adobe was shocked at my ignorance and didn't provide much soothing support. It's true that what you don't know can't kill you.
It was an experience that I'll never forget and made me realize that I can do anything. We have a video clip available, if you're interested in taking a peek. - 225 Water Street Creative Arts & Holding Company

The art of decorating objects with cut-out pictures and designs.
Decoupage is the amazing art of decorating objects with cut-out pictures and printed designs. Once your designs are glued down keep adding Royal Coat Decoupage Medium to create a glasslike finish to cover, seal, and protect the finished piece. The term "Decoupage" comes from the old French word decouper, meaning "to cut out."CREATE A LIFE COLLAGE

Getting Images Ready for Photo Projects
Scanning and Printing Photos
If you don't have a digital camera we suggest scanning your original images to the proper resolution. This helps to maintain the image quality and integrity of the item.
CLEAR COLOR and/or BLACK & WHITE PHOTOS WORK THE BEST!
Shop or Create What's On Your Mind at CafePress.com
- DO IT YOURSELF Scan Help:
1. Clean your scanner bed with a non-abrasive wipe & appropriate cleaner.
2. Make sure glass is dry before placing picture or image down.
3. Photos need to rest against one side of the scanner bed so that it
remains straight.
4. Preview photo before scanning.
5. Scan all photos using the Color option even if they are B&W.
6. Photos 2x3 or smaller - Scan at 600 dpi.
7. Photos 5x7 - Scan at 300 dpi.
8. Photos larger than 5x7 - Scan at 200 dpi.
9. Always save as a jpeg or .JPG file without any compression.
FYI: When just using faces from your photos, in your artwork, we suggest choosing an image of the subject that is looking directly at the camera and is at least the size of a quarter.

Decoupage a Piece of Furniture with Photo Memories
The art of decorating objects with pictures and designs.
Decoupage is the art of decorating objects with pictures, photos and printed designs. Once you add a a glasslike finish, like Mod Podge to cover, seal, and protect them, you have a true keepsake. The term "Decoupage" comes from the old French word decouper, meaning "to cut out."Want to bring a piece of furniture back to life? If you have an old shelf, table or chair get out those photos, craft supplies and some creative energy. You'll love it when it's done!
Supplies:
Desired paint color, if painting the furniture piece
Copies of Precious Photos
Magazines
Greeting Cards
Scissors
Glue Stick
Ruler
Sandpaper - I like 400 grit
Foam Brushes
Clean Rag
1. Prepare the furniture piece first. Make sure it's clean and lightly sand, as needed. Don't forget to wipe it down, after sanding. If you choose to change the color of the furniture piece, paint it now and let it dry overnight.
2. Take copies of photos and paper designs and create your collage photo art layout. You can put photocopies onto cardstock for dimension, but it's okay just to glue them directly onto the piece.
3. Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the back of each photo, place in position, then apply more Mod Podge over the top. You can use your fingers or foam brush to push out air bubbles, but don't fuss to much. Sometimes it's best to give it a few minutes and go over it again with the foam brush.
4. Allow photos or images to dry and continue to add layers of Mod Podge, let each layer dry, lightly sand and apply Mod Podge again, until you get the desired effect.
I love to use Mod Podge Hard Coat or Royal Coat Decoupage Medium to get a high gloss effect.
There are a bazillion ways to preserve and display those special moments.
Go ahead. Create something.
Some craft items you shouldn't be without.
Makes life simple, easy and FUN!
There are so many fun things that you can do with your digital photos! Just remember that if you're using an inkjet printer you cannot use Mod Podge or white glue to seal it. It will run. Use laser prints or take the images to a print shop and make photo copies.
