Growing a Garden in Small Spaces?

Perhaps, as a city dweller, you find it difficult or expensive to grow and design a garden. But whatever it is that's stopping you (space issues or cost) from creating a lush and healthy garden, it's about time to put those green thumbs to good use and start gardening. Be glad to know that there is a cost-effective solution to your problem.

This article attempts to give garden-lovers inexpensive ideas for gardening -- especially urban dwellers who don't have the luxury of space to grow their favorite plants, herbs, and flowers. By re-using common household items such as empty cans and buckets, these garden lovers can create their own little gardens right in the heart of a busy city.

But Wait!

Here are some pictures for inspiration.

Now it's your turn to make a garden!

Top Ideas for Gardening Using Common Household Items

There are just too many ideas for gardening. And the amazing thing is, you don't have to hire a professional to do them for you, or shell out a significant amount of cash to get the project done! Before you know it, you and your family will be eating your great vegetable recipe.

One of these ideas for gardens is by using (or re-using) household items that can pass as a pot. In general, anything that can hold soil can be a pot. If you look around the house, there are many of these items that just sit there and gather dust. So why not put them to good use?

Here is a list of the materials that you can use as pots to create a beautiful garden inside the house, on the rooftop, or anywhere in the house.

1. tissue rolls
2. tires
3. yogurt cups
4. water bottles
5. empty cans
6. unused pieces of clothing
7. old bags
8. boxes
9. plastic bags
10. anything that is shaped like a pot

There are at least three benefits of using the above-stated materials for growing a garden. First, you don't have to spend anything on pots. You may want to decorate them, but if you don't, your plants will look as lovely. Second, you are doing Mother Earth a great favor. Third, think about the health benefits these plants will give you. You can breath fresh air, and eat organic food.

But to finally get started, you need a solid plan and the following bare essentials.

I love planting small plants in teacups and other unique containers I find at our local Salvation Army -- but the succulents in the old boot is just too perfect! Love it!
