Aren't These Tulips Spectacular?

These tulips are about 3 feet high and have blooms that are about 3 inches each - just fabulous! I actually didn't know they grow that tall - must be some kind of giant breed.

Most of us enjoy being outdoors during the warm months of the year. Why not create your own little retreat sanctuary in your yard?

I love this simple garden. It didn't even take much effort to create it. Just plant a few giant tulips and voila! Or if you really love to garden you can spend a lot more in both time and money. For some the therapy is in digging and getting their hands in the soil. For others it's simply sitting on the patio and enjoying the yard.

I've only just begun this lens. I will be adding more photographs and recommendations for creating your own little paradise. So bookmark it, if you like.

All photographs in this lens are copyrighted and were taken by Marsha Camblin, unless otherwise indicated.

A Quiet Refuge

A garden is a place of refuge, where you can feel your soul bloom. It's a great place to sit and write in a journal.

A place where you can breath in the fragrance and give thanks for all the lush life on this earth. Whether you like to dig or to simply sit you can arrive at a place of calm. You can appreciate life's natural cycles in a garden - from the birthing bud all the way through to death. Gardens are associated with paradise. They should appeal to your emotion, senses and spirit.

A Place of Serenity

Make your retreat garden unique by adding personal touches which invoke tranquility. I offer the photos here just to stimulate your creative juices as inspiration. They are a jumping off place. So get out there and get started and may your garden bring you serenity as mine has to me.

Let your dreams or imagination be your guide from that deep place within you. Go out and visit private gardens , public parks or botanic gardens to stimulate ideas. Sketching or painting can also be helpful when deciding what you want. Go outside and commune with the spirit of a pretty place.

Even if you live in an apartment you can begin by having a cactus garden in your window or nourish a bonsai plant. I live in a condo with limited ground of my own, but I connect with gardens by photographing them.

I'm Partial to Asian Style Gardens

Use water such as a pond, waterfall or fountain for soothing sounds in your garden.

Add some whimsical touches - angels - temples - birdbaths - outdoor benches - umbrellas - picnic tables - wind chimes - statues.

This one is cool because you don't need to hang it. Also it has it's own shade mid-day.

Entering the Kingdom Quote by Mary Oliver

The dream of my life
Is to lie down by a slow river
And stare at the light in the trees -
To learn something by being nothing
A little while but the rich
Lens of attention.

A Gardening Movie

This is a very touching movie based on fact. It is about
some prisoners in England who were asked to work as gardeners.
They were eventually entered into the Hampden Court palace
garden show which they lost. But here is a quote from
the end of the movie:

Prison Gardeners went on to win silver and gold medals at the
Chelsea and Hampden Court Palace shows, eventually winning the Tudor
Rose the gardening world's highest honour.

This movie is a comedy, but made me cry with joy. Just excellent. You must either
rent or own this one! Fabulous

I can hardly wait for spring now that it is right around the corner. The past two years I was not well enough to get out into our garden but this year it is going to happen. I love turning a messy weeds into a healthy thriving garden.

My dear ... I guess I am some kind of gardener ... or at least yard person as I have spent an inordinate amount of time, since June, in my yard ... front and back. Just yesterday, I was painting a really old wrought iron bench which I dragged through the sandy yard to a good spot ... haven't really settled on where to stick it. And, the day before, I finished my stone paver project ... 67 trips !!! It looks pretty good ... I'm now thinking a white trellis and some confederate jasmine. And, I also like sunflowers!! I have a white metal garden angel decorative piece to place somewhere in my garden. Ah ...

Just beautiful. Love the pictures, but my favorite is without a doubt the little boy statue.
